I noticed that and wondered if it was a purposeful change. I went back and watched floor at Secret Classic and she stayed wrapped the whole time. It could just be me but her back handspring before did not look nearly as powerful as it normally is.

It'll be interested to see if she stayed wrapped tomorrow or extends the arm again.
Her coach said as soon as she punched she knew it was gonna land low, but she didn't know how low. Whatever it was I highly doubt we'll see that again.

I feel like it was an off night for everyone except for good ole swaggiemaggie and alys floor (loved it). Hopefully day 2 will be better.

And I just cant like skinners gymnastics. I want her to just not do as difficult skills if they look like that.

Oh and that worlds list above, I can get on board with for sure!

Exactly why I put a toss up between Skinner and Baumann. I love MyKayla throwing the hard skills but Alyssa's gymnastics are just much prettier to me.

He Kexin won gold on bars in 2008. She was about as teeny tiny as they come.

Kyla is listed as 5'4. Svetlana is 5'5. She won gold on UB in Sydney and Atlanta, not Beijing. She also came in second on floor in Sydney and second in the all around in Athens--so I don't think it's fair to say she's not a strong tumbler. It's a completely different style from her era (96-04) than in today.
@gofriars, I mentioned this particular Russian gymnast Svetlana Khorkina because I remembered the same talk about her sudden growth would keep her from being successful in the sport and like Kyla, Svetlana was trying to perform like the smaller gymnast of her time and failed miserably. But when she began doing routines that accentuated her height and long lines, she started winning again. What happened after Svetlana, you saw the emerging of the over 5'3" gymnasts... It is just time for Kyla to revamp her routines, that all.

I LOVE Aly's new floor routine. Her double layout is so high and that double pike + split half is really unique! Also Simone got a 14.9 with a fall on floor which is still a very good score!

My Dream Worlds Team:

Simone Biles
Bailie Key
Maggie Nichols
Aly Raisman
Gabby Douglas
MyKayla Skinner/Brenna Dowell/Madison Kocian/Kyla Ross.

I'd put Skinner on the team because she could most likely earn a medal in vault finals. Dowell and Kocian could MAYBE grab bar medals, but I think it would be much harder for them than for Skinner to win something on vault. That sixth spot could literally go to anyone though the US will still crush everybody in team finals by like five points even if they have falls.

She's naturally tall (for gymnasts) and doesn't have the same difficulty as the other girl's. Her beauty is her technique, which is mostly solid, but when you're 5'4" tall (which sounds tiny until you compare her to like Shawn Johnson who is 4'9") she doesn't have the extra room to do the extra turns. Gabby Douglas, for example, has a similar build but is also only 4'11" and while Aly is 5'2" she has a lot more muscle and power than Kyla.

Nastia is about an inch shorter than Kyla and being honest, if Nastia was competing now, I don't think she would have gone to the Olympics for the same issue. Graceful with great technique isn't winning anymore---you have to go big and bigger, which neither have much wiggle room on because they loose so much with their height.

Nastia in her prime had the most amazing uneven bars - she had big skills and exceptional deduction free form - I think she definitely would still make the team today.

"Missed connection, call United, try to reschedule your flight" QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND TBH.

Sam Mikulak could eat it on every event and still just be so hyped. He's just the definition of "happy to be here". His first floor pass was great.
Also loving Marvin Kimble. Not a great night for him but he just seems so fun.
SO BUMMED Jake Dalton scratched.
Chris Brooks looked like Hitler with that hair.
Danell Leyva on high bar ::heart eyes::
I have always and will continue to love JHort. I had questions about him returning for an attempt at a third Olympics but he looks perfectly capable at this point.

I wouldn't exactly describe her form like that. Her dismount was extremely cowboyed/flexed feet, her pak was super over arched, and she bent her legs a lot on her giants. If she was at her 2008 level on all events she would definitely make the team. But if she was only back to her old bars ability I don't think she would.

Also...Biles fall on floor. What the hell?

Simone looked off her game in the first few events. When she was doing her beam routine, it looked like she was just playing around in the gym rather than competing. I missed her UB but she looked like she was back to her real self on vault.

Wish I was around tonight to watch the second round but I hope all of the girls do great!

Simone had a rough landing in her floor and Gabby was unsure on the beam and missed a skill. It will b interesting who comes out on top if they both compete next summer! Can't wait!

He's literally old enough to be the father of some of the junior women's competitors. I'll give him props for sticking around at the age of 29.

I'm talking mostly about her handstand quality and positions while she's actually circling on the bars. Her form was so good.

Nastia's beam was amazing too.

I absolutely loved watching Nastia on the beam... she had (and probably still does) one of the most gorgeous leg lines I've seen on a female artistic gymnast. I guess when your father was an artistic gymnast and your mother was a rhythmic gymnast you luck out on genes:
