Camp Woodward all the way!!! My daughter went when she was 8 and has been asking every summer to go back. We were very close to registering her the past couple summers. Just went online to register her tonight! She is so excited, she is 12 and finally gets to go back!

Which Woodward did your CP go to? I am thinking about sending CP (8) this summer. She really wants to go, but I am a little concerned about sending her to a "serious" sports camp at her age and for her first week-long away camp experience. It makes me feel better to hear your child had such an enjoyable experience!

She went to the PA camp the summer of 2011. She did go with two 12 year olds but because of her age she stayed in the mini cabin and the other two girls stayed in another cabin. My daughter is very independent and was fine and has been begging to go back.

I also send her early. We are in Florida so the schools get out earlier than other areas. This year the last day of school is June 3rd. Her first year was week 2, this year is week 1. I am sure my daughter would love to go later in the summer but the later you go like week 5-12 they max out in campers and have to wait list new requests. To me.... the early camps are not quite as busy and full so if you have a younger girl I would suggest going to one of the first three weeks for the first trip. I have absolutely nothing to compare my statement to, just my thoughts as the older girls I know that have went have all went week 5 or later.

I am okay with my daughter traveling alone and paying the escort fee but what we are doing is her friend's mom is flying them up there this summer and my husband will fly to pick them up. :) Both she and her friend going this summer are 12.

I was serving a tour in Korea the summer she went. My husband flew up with another mom to drop her off at camp and took over 50 pictures that day. The third mom flew up and picked the three girls up. I didn't get any pictures from her and she rarely replied to text messages. I had to ask one of the other girls to tell her to text me. Her reason: she was too busy. Too busy to take picture and text her mom! LOL.

Looking back she was so young! Here a few pictures.
1) Her and the two 12 year old girls from her gym she traveled with.
2) The outside group pic is her cabin. Nearly all were there for gymnastic camp not cheer.
3) Inside group picture was her group in the gym.

Thank you @angelndscz for sharing that. CP heard about Woodward last year and won't be able to go for 2 more years, but hearing your daughter's experience is making me more comfortable with sending her at 8.

Not sure about your job/time off/availability, but they do take parent "volunteers" for each week to be drivers, work the store, be a cabin mom, or nurse. the "pay" is tuition for your child but if you have a younger kiddo and will be flying up and staying in the area for the week.. there isn't too much to do up there so you might as well make use of your time and then you can keep an eye on CP and make sure she's content and save some $$.

or use the week as a kid-free retreat :D lol

Unfortunately, CP has a younger sister with special needs (not severe needs, but enough that I won't be able to just up and leave her for a week) so I likely won't be able to do that unless DH can schedule his vacation around it. I did notice the volunteering thing which would be perfect for us if I can swing something for youngest. Otherwise, younger child and I will probably vacation locally and then pick her up. We have some family and friends close-ish to PA to visit and see while CP is away.
