I agree it was uncalled for regardless of whether or not they're friends. It just looks bad either way. Also lots of coaches are "friends" but not friends if you know what I mean. Anyway whatever..some people will make excuses for some people no matter what. I get sipping on the cali sparking juice but jeese.
Soo true. One of my best friends coaches at a gym an hour away from mine, and we hang out on the weekends and occasionally talk about our teams, etc. A while back he was telling me how bummed he was that he couldn't go to the ACE showcase with me to see my sister, but then remarked something like, "But let's be honest, it's not like there'll be anything too good coming out of ACE this year." Without missing a beat, I said, "Yeah, you're right, your senior 3 will probably beat them at Worlds." Yes, we're friends, but no, that comment wasn't cool.

guys take digs on each other. its how they bond and joke around with each other. no need to blow something out of proportion if its not really like that.

orby, get in here and settle this. :p

For real what are they spiking the kool aid with over there? I understand a bias if your kid goes there, but they can only pretend they're not the problem so many times

Met 3 awesome/super friendly CALI mamas/grandma today and one very rude mama that was booing my CP's team, not going to let one CALI mama overshadow how sweet and kind the rest of the CALI people we met today were!
On another note, is it norm for people to boo other teams? I personally clap and cheer all teams, even if we are competing against them :) don't feel like I should be teaching my CP to be unkind like that.

I do not think it is the norm to BOO other teams but it, on occasion, happens. IMHO, gyms should teach their athletes and parents to be supportive of everyone and kick them out of the gym if they do not comply.

Ewww. Tacky! I always cheer for all the kids and encourage CP to do so as well when she's with me in the stands. Part of being a great athlete is having great sportsmanship, imo.

To the Orby comment...I'm gonna go with not a joke based on his lack of emoticon or anything else to make it seem like a joke. Also, and yes crazy I know, but how hard is it for a coach to use proper spelling and grammar? Yes, I know I went there. Frankly, I don't know what they're drinking in their blue and black kool-aid over there, but someone spiked it a little too much this season. Not that I'm rooting for Cali to lose every competition and not that I want their program to fall to piece (they seem to be doing that well enough themselves without any help), but I'll also admit that I'm not really rooting for them this season, either.

And, on a random note, given what the West Coast of Africa has been dealing with lately, ie. Ebola and the deaths of thousands of West Africans, I think his comment is really insensitive and offensive.

As for Madi, she's adorable. I hope she enjoys basing and back spotting.

I think all the smack talking in cheer music mixes is just getting to people ;). When you repeatedly listen and practice to music that says stuff like - "let's show these haters how it's done", "we're the best and coming at-cha", "we're the fierce-est in the land and you can't touch us", etc. maybe you get a little carried away ;).

I personally think the first guy started it w/ his post about being the best in the west - it's not a big stretch for Cali to take it as dig towards them. Someone saying they are THE best in a geographic area (as opposed to ONE of the best) does open a can of worms. Yeah - Cali could have taken the high road and not said anything, but again - the cheer mix about the haters echoing in the background probably threw him over the edge.

i dont have kids (dont wany any either) and have no ties to the gym. i was simply adding a counterpoint to the cheers of our lives script thats currently being written for this weeks episode.

That's exactly how I felt towards the dig at west Africa. My stepdad lives in Ghana and while he's no long technically my stepdad since my mom and him are divorced doesn't mean I would want him to contract Ebola and pass away. I'd be devastated. The fact that he was making a dig at Africa AND the fact that he was raining on someone's parade about thinking they're own program is good made me disgusted. I know some people think their own sh*t doesn't stink but it does... Just like everyone else's.

I'll never be at a competition with those cute Mini LVL 1's, so that won't take much effort. I meant more figuratively when I'm watching their LVL 5 teams on a live stream.

And yes, I did. Orby, as a responsible adult, who travels outside of the country enough, who has put together an immense amount of resources for outside of USA gyms, should have enough human decency to think about what he says before he says it. Psychology is my field, which is why I give most of the teenagers blowing up twitter a pass---with the exception of the older ones. However, Orby is an adult...a fully fledged adult who has logic and forward thinking. I absolutely do not give him a pass on this.

You're writing this in sarcasm font, right?
