All-Star Cover Up Rule, For Those That Have Competed This Season

I don't think it's playing word games.
I will state the guidelines and then rely on the USASF to enforce them.
I will not stalk the halls searching for an athlete to bust. I will not assume to control my fellow competitors athletes.
I will make sure that my daughters have a shirt on when requires too.

But as a coach, it's also your job to enforce rules. regardless of whether or not you believe them fair. it's not the USASF's job to enforce the rules to you to enforce to your kids. None of us are saying stalk the halls to enforce it. but enforce it when it's seen, not just "i'm too worried about other things and won't think about it" type of mentality.

I'm team mom for my CP's team again this season, and I'm curious, for those that have competed already, if you've noticed anything different in regards to the new cover up rule this season? Has anyone seen actual enforcement of this rule yet? If so, what have you seen? I am just trying to figure out the logistics of getting warm-up jackets and pants to and from our athletes. Also, we've reminded the parents on our team of this rule repeatedly already, but I'm sure I'll have to gently remind some of them again on competition day. Just curious to know if anyone has seen/experienced anything in regards to this new rule yet this season.

I went to a Jamfest competion and this rule was not inforced that I saw, I was even joking about it with a friend

I guess I see it different. The government that sets the rules is charged with the enforcement.
That is why I believe it is not enforcable since individuals will make the choice to break the guidlines but others will suffer the consequences.

As a parent, would you not actively enforce the law upon your children (stealing, murder, etc.)?

I was on ebay not long ago and came across these strange items..for the sake of showcasing a uniform whilst still 'covering' up stomachs would these be considered acceptable? I am in the UK so this rule doesn't apply to us...yet! They are a bit odd but cheap and allow the uniforms to be shown off and not have hot and uncomfortable warm ups over the top?

I wasn't talking about your children with the cover up rule. It's the fact that you think that the "overseeing body" needs to be the overall, true enforcer. As a coach, you're expected to bring your athletes up under the rules. Not just stating "this is the rule, follow it," But then make it known that you really don't care and won't really enforce it. If they break it, you're expected to enforce it, just as a parent is expected to bring their child up following the law, even if it's one they don't agree with.

So let me again state that my posititon is not to overthrow this rule by anarchy..
With that being said I do think it is a stupid rule and I hope that I can have some influence in erasing it.
99.9% of gyms are doing rather well and our sport is growing. This is full top gyms and crop top gyms. Why?? because we have Identified our customer base..properly educated them...shown we are trustworthy to safely train their athlete...and most of all provide them access to a "sport" that provides positive and uplifting life lessons, not the least of which is learning to develope a strong character basied not off the opinion of others but rather on hard work, loyalty, and teamwork just to mention a few...

All of your rantings about how morally superior you are, and how the person that dosent see things exactly as you do must be stopped, and how your millitant overbearing studios are the only way to run an organization just serve to illistrate perfectly the motivation and thinking of the people behind these "guidelines".....
They are self-righteous and foolish to think just because they see things one way that there is no other view...and if there is another view well by-golly it must be trashy...

Yeah. Not angry...at all. I could not care less if your whole gym runs all over the US in thongs and pasties. I didn't make the rule. I don't make any rules. I just follow them when I'm told to, unless it's something really worth fighting over. Allowing a bunch of under 18 kids to show more skin is not something worth fighting for to me. I just don't get what the big deal is, and so far the only thing I can get is that people don't think USASF should be making rules about image (at their events). This confuses me. I still, after 11 pages, don't know what the big deal is about this rule.

As for 99.9% of cheer gyms "doing rather well", I don't know what to make of that statement. I don't think 99.9% of businesses in any industry are doing rather well. I'd check that statistic if I were you.

And lastly, morally superior is laughable - I'm probably the most morally inferior person on here. ;)

(And for the record, my daughter doesn't go to a "studio". Much like cheer gyms, you'll notice the people in any sport with the most World Champion titles usually look the part, no matter where they are.)

I personally dont like the look of just a shirt over a uni, I think it just looks tacky. I think gyms should either have warmups for everyone to wear around or enforce that all the athletes appear "competition ready" the whole day (i.e. no rolled down skirts, just sports bras, spankies, ect.)

The first gym I cheered at gave every athlete a team t-shirt and REQUIRED that we wear the t-shirt over our unis unless in warm-ups or competing. The rule was mostly to make sure uniforms stayed clean (i.e. no makeup or food, etc. got on the tops) but it was also to ensure that all athletes looked appropriate throughout the day and were representing the gym in a positive manner - mind you this was back in 2003, way before any cover up rules.

Most gyms can't afford to shell out the dough to provide each athlete a warmup jacket and frankly, given the costs of uniforms, it's probably not fair to ask parents to front the bill for that, too. Reality is t-shirts are a cost-effective way to comply with the cover up rule, tacky or not.

Most gyms in my area require warmups so at state competitions everyone has them. Maybe its just cause many times theres snow when we have competitions so all the gyms in the state want to keep their athletes warm but warmups aren't that expensive you can find many for under $100 .

im beginning to wonder if warm ups are going to become the "thing to see" as well as new uniforms...since sticking with this restriction means that cheerleaders will be spending more time in their warm ups than showing their uniforms... i feel like in a year or two theyre gonna have different worlds warm ups, day 1/day 2 warm ups, etc. not necessarily a bad thing, but $$$$$$
