Are any gyms even talking about new uniforms this season?
our gym is keeping the same ones from last season for the worlds teams just in case we don't end up having any kind of season this year, and this is only our second year with our program unis, so thank god we won't have to purchase a $400+ uni only to not use it at all.

New ones for us. The gym has found a manufacturer that can make them faster and less expensively than rebel, so I think they will hold off on ordering until it becomes obvious we won't need them. It's a newish gym and grew by a ton this year, so half the kids unis don't fit and there are a bunch who'd need new ones anyway.

Not all star but I've heard from coach friends at some SCHOOLS who are planning on new uniforms this year. (I believe they are in the Carolinas.)

Um.

If your school's 20-21 plan doesn't even include a face to face option because the numbers are too high, your sports should not be considering new apparel. At least not right now.

I was thinking that I miss cheer comps. But I don’t miss hanging around for hours waiting for awards. So I was thinking IF there will be some smaller comps, then they could have virtual awards ceremonies. You get there, warm up, compete, go home! 2 hrs instead of 5hrs would be a lot safer and easier. :)

This could work.

Literally no:

Mingling. Food. Vendors. Nothing.

Just ONE comp floor and single warm up areas. Not usual backstage warm up set ups with many teams.

Parents must drop off. Can watch virtually or from CCTV type system outside the venue.

Gym receives comp times when you register. Coach passes time on to the team.

Arrive xxx minutes before your warm up time. Do not come early and congregate as goal is to move teams through without back ups and lines or large groups.

Kids must be dropped off at xxxx location. Distancing dots on floor.

At your assigned time, a staffer comes and escorts team to the warm up and comp space.

Kids proceed to comp space. They compete.

They exit through xxxxxx exit. Must leave property.

Virtual awards at xxxxxxx time.

Issues:

*Cheer would actually need to run on time.
*Parents and staff would need to also run on time getting kids through warm up and comp areas and out of the building.

Ex: If Stars warms up at 6:15 and SE warms up at 6:25, but Stars is late and doesn't report to check in spot til 6:20, you are now behind but can only have one team in at a time. Disaster.

My daughters coach said he had heard they may try to do comps close to what you've posted, with one difference. They may schedule an entire gym at one time. The gym has a time slot, they come in and each team competes, no audience. Then, awards are virtual. I'm not actually thinking there will be a season, but the thought of it like this makes me sad. These kids get so much energy from the crowd. The thought of performing in an empty room is just heartbreaking to me.

Both of those make sense to me re: how an actual day might unfold. Questions, do you see a virtual way to compete (using the example above) SE and Stars without traveling? Can they each go to a location near their homes and be judged by a panel somewhere else? by multiple panels? I still see travel as the issue and we need to adjust our mindset and consider if teams might be able to compete against each other but not be in the same physical space.

Our gym mentioned the possibility of virtual comps.

About real comps, I was hoping parents could still watch. Maybe one parent per athlete, with masks. Limited time inside.

This is how dance competitions are currently being held. There’s one here in Orlando next week that I was asked to work. No audience, virtual awards, and the entire studio competes all their numbers back to back. Then the venue is cleared and cleaned for the next studio to come in and compete.

This would be interesting for the gyms that do lots of cross competitors. There's one here where every kid is on 2-3 teams!
