There is an enormous difference between lifting shelter in place restrictions in certain localities and gathering thousands of people from multiple countries together. Without question, the former will happen much sooner than the latter.

I don't disagree that shelter in place restrictions will be lifted first, but to state that travel and large gatherings won't happen for another five more months (end of summer as poster stated), is rather "pie in the sky" based on what economists are saying. I would gladly eat crow, and hope that countries could just keep printing money to keep the airlines and other city reliant industries in business such as tourism closed. China started relaxing after two months, and granted they are having to re-restrict some things, but that two month mark is not coincidental according to the experts and they are the second world power.

I totally agree with this...
I see a 1.5-2 month lock down (so re-opening mid May to June)
-I believe non commercial/uncontrolled gatherings will be restricted to 25/50 people or less for awhile- probably until mid-late Aug

I agree. And, of course, being able to re-start has to be on everyone’s minds. Getting people back to work, balancing multiple predictive models, and feeling triumphant and rewarded after all these drastic measures, are all things we all have to balance too.

The part that is sad to me is that it highlights the fact that economy and personal health have a jagged interface. What we do for work, for enrichment, for fun, should balance out with the risks we take. I totally get that both Varsity and Disney are entities that do provide sustenance for their employees, etc. and that they have a certain responsibility to get people back to work when they can. I’m just concerned that a rush to “enrichment” and entertainment activities is not where we should start. Our vulnerability has been exposed, and we should take those lessons to heart. Public Health measures need to become a part of the sport now.

That being said, it is becoming more likely that there will be huge differences in regional experiences of this pandemic. And both Varsity and Disney have clients from all regions... so that has to play into it too.

My fear is that folks will go out and return to normal and then we will see another spike. Well that spike is certain, I fear how big it may be.

Most likely, with exceptions for harder hit areas, we'll exit this similarly to the reverse of the way we entered it.

States that were slower with the Stay at Home orders will probably be the ones who are quicker to lift them.

Nationally, the guidance will probably start with allowing gatherings of 10-25 people in May and then up to around 50 to 100 in June and back to large events in time for the RNC convention in late August.

Locally, Gyms seem to be on the list of things that are flat out closed by the government, so it may take us a little bit of extra time to actually open up and start practicing, unless you can successfully make the case that you're not a gym or fitness center, but by the time thats settled, because courts are already backed up, we'll be able to open up anyway.

So its feasible that southern gyms would be back in action in Mid May, with schedules limiting the number of people in their facilities. But the idea that a 5,000 plus person event, drawing in people from all around the country/world is unlikely but on the edge of possible.

But if you pray enough to the Cheer Gods, for it to become an actual official religion, you could get an exemption and have worlds on its original date.

Who knows, maybe Jeff Webb could talk to Dana White and borrow the private island that the UFC events are going to be held on and just ferry over 1 or 2 teams at a time.

Its a crazy situation.

On the realistic side, a live stream virtual competition could be a possibility, but weak signals, lag and glitches could be a significant problem.

my guess on why the April 24th decision date is that is when Worlds was originally scheduled, so there's probably language within the contract regarding timing of potential postponements having to be scheduled by the original contract date and be within a 2 month window of the original date, which gives us the end of June event deadline. Again just a guess, but that seems like a reasonable clause for a contract.

I’m thinking until there is a vaccine or effective treatment, restrictions will be lifted and put back on a few times, maybe less strict. The main goal will be to not overwhelm hospitals.

And the number of colleges waiving SAT/ACT scores for next year’s graduating class makes me think that they are not expecting groups to be allowed to assemble before next fall at the latest, since if things were going to reopen in May, there would be enough test dates to get scores in before early admissions deadlines, and especially before Jan regular decision ones.

Ahhh. I was wondering what would happen with SAT/ACT. And my guess is that "acceptable scores" will be adjusted the following year or to. Anyone in high school right now. My kids schoool isn't on the Zoom platform. They don't have real time class with question and answer. They are essentially teaching themselves and emailing questions to the teacher. They are unlikely to grasp the breadth of knowledge needed for high stakes standardized testing.

Random interjection, but one small positive about the timing is that fourth quarter (after spring break) tends to heavily be review time anyway to prepare for standardized testing in high school, and it's also the time in the curriculum where the more 'useless' knowledge is placed that is only used for that testing.

With that being said, some insider information from the education circuit is that right now schools are starting to prepare for the very real possibility of starting next year online or modified in some way, because they aren't certain the restrictions on group gatherings will be lifted by August. It's not set in stone, obviously, but the fact we're being asked to prepare for that possibility, in my eyes, means there's basically no way Worlds is happening at this point. I agree with the above poster who said the reason for the April 24th deadline is probably because that was the original date Worlds was supposed to be held, and the contract probably says Disney needs to reschedule by that date or cancel the event entirely. My guess? If there is a Worlds, it'll be virtual, which comes with its own myriad of issues.

You say that like SE had Worlds in the bag, which would be a very, very far reach for anyone to think, even CSP. Them getting "lucky" that nobody else could hit all season wouldn't really matter at Worlds unless they made some pretty major upgrades. Since they did have arguably the weakest routine in the division.

Yikes. Your allegiance to CA is showing. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but this comment was kind of uncalled for. SE raw scores were right in line with the top large senior teams even when those teams hit. Reference Cheersport for example - Orange hit and SE didn't and SE had a higher raw.

Yikes. Your allegiance to CA is showing. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but this comment was kind of uncalled for. SE raw scores were right in line with the top large senior teams even when those teams hit. Reference Cheersport for example - Orange hit and SE didn't and SE had a higher raw.

Yea, definitely reading way too much into that post. And in no way does CA have anything to do with it, no idea why that was brought up. Panthers aren't even my favorite in the division.

F5 had posted their upgraded elite on Twitter, it looked pretty darn good.
