So, when the gym says they are closing practices what do you say to that???
Cost, I assume?!
If we could get a fraction of the action and attention that a recruiting thread got, which by comparison is quite silly IMHO, then how much better could we safeguard our children from this type of abuse? I guess I am just a parent, who takes this type of thing seriously and would like to draw awareness to such abuses to keep this kind of thing from happening to other children. Bottom line.
My advice, focus on things that matter, like what we can all do to keep our children safe. How about everyone that focuses their energies on gossiping gets together and demands accountability for the gym in Boca that fired their coach in 2011, but did nothing to report his crimes against children?
He was reported to authorities. I am not sure if the gym reported him and than was notified and they fired him or if they fired him and reported it but they did fire him. It's like $30 per employee for a legit fingerprint background check and I'm sure if cost is an issue a local PD could work something out with the gyms.
Honestly I don't know that this would help since most (from what I can tell) never get reported and it might be there first offense.
One disturbing thought. Since from what I can tell - the gym that fired him never reported to authorities why he was fired, he was free to go on to other gyms and coach there, possibly doing the same thing.
I found the other thread and someone said he cheered for one of TG's IO teams, does anyone know if he coached there too. Not trying to bring a big name gym into this. Just curious since if he was, even if they did a background check on him this wouldn't have come up.

My rule in my home is that if you can't take your own kid to practice than you shouldn't sign them up. If my kid gets hurt or I move away than you are out of a car pool. There always seems to be drama with car pools. But those of us ON THE BOARDS have said time and time again, that we don't leave our children alone in the company of coaches, for this reason exactly, regardless how much we trust them. So maybe a more effective approach would be to figure out how you can go outside this forum to bring attention to an issue that gym owners, for one, don't really want to talk about, because it may negatively impact their business, and the USASF, for two, doesn't want to talk about, because it may negatively impact the sport, and random cheer parents, for three, don't want to talk about because it involves the possible thought of sexualization of their minor child.
So my biggest question is, how DO we keep them ALL safe? Not just your own kid, but the kid down the street whose parents aren't involved with the child's cheer, and the kid has to find rides to-and-from practice, etc.?
Started a new thread because a thread with the title "How Would You Feel About This?" seems to sweep a VERY serious issue under the rug.

As far as Trinity is concerned. I have not stepped one foot in the door of that gym and I bet the vast majority of those who post hateful things about this gym have never done so, either.

Take a moment. Think about that. Recruiting VS. Child Abuse. No contest.

It has been public knowledge that he was fired from there in June and why so he has not worked at another gym since.
I thought it said they fired him in June of 2011? I'll go back and re-read the article later.
So they fire him in June of 2011 and authorities are just now arresting him? That seems odd, if it was June of this year ok but if it was last year then to me that seems the gym never reported it and waited till someone else stood up.
