It will be hard to form a level 5 team in Daytona. Our area just doesn't have the athletic pool to form multiple level 5 teams logistically. With TG Orlando only being about an hour away, and a few smaller gyms in our area that can't even form a competitive level 5 team it will be difficult. There is also Brandon and TG Miami to consider- though not close to Daytona, kids will travel to those gyms. I am not saying it won't be possible - just difficult with the logistics of athletic talent we have and our area. Maybe her name being attached to the gym will help bring in talent, but I believe last year, Angels and Brandon White were the only small sr 5 teams. Cheer express fluctuates between medium and small - they are over by Brandon. And that is basically it for small sr teams.
Cheer Florida in Boca was small, but you're right. Florida is weird when it comes to demographics of cheerleading..

I may have missed a couple - I was thinking more of the ones that had consistent small sr teams. Yes - you would think central Florida would have no trouble fielding level 5 teams but that is not the case. I had this discussion with a friend of mine not long ago. Top gun Orlando was the only gym that had a level 5 worlds team last year I believe in the immediate area. Then I believe Brandon/Tampa area was the next closest. Then of course Top Gun Miami - but there are usually only a handful of level 5 worlds teams across the state. Very odd.

Exactly! A million gyms all over and about 9 worlds teams...
And I can only really think of one in North Florida, Infinity (Jacksonville)
Plus what was just mentioned, Merrit Island, which I never heard of lol

The gym is newer, but this past World's was the first time any gym in the entire county of Brevard has sent a team to the Cheer World's. We have teams in just about every division at Dance World's covered though; but a first for Cheer.

This would be a good questionnaire to ask people: What matters to you when choosing a gym?

Solid teaching?
Teams to suit athletes level and age group? Now or future?
Organized office that can do billing correctly? (this is one I don't think attracts people but they will leave if bad)
Competitive? Winnig?
First: I think what should be important as rule number one, is can they bill correctly Finances are a huge aspect to consider in cheer. Its important to have your financial obligations/dues organized in a business. (this is probably one of the reasons as to why so many gyms close each year because they're unorganized financially and don't know how set priorities)

Secondly,
A lot of parents spend 3k for one season. I don't think there is a doubt in anyone's mind that they want to be with a winning team, but I feel like being at a gym that has different levels to match your child's technique/talents is a must. Otherwise, you won't be learning much if you're a level four athlete, stuck on a level three team.

I think that being a winning gym should be your last thought. Like I said, I can understand why so many think about that first rather than PROPER team placement and a gym being organized financially.

3K? I wish it was only that!

Yes

Funny thing, just read a small snippet of an article from some of the top entrepreneurs in the country, and they were talking about the worst advice they ever received. One worst piece of advice was 'Do what you love' and another was 'Follow your passions.'

Just some interesting food for thought for this thread.

Think and Grow Rich encourages people to come up with a logical plan with a realistic timeframe in which they can make money from something that they enjoy. Another reason as to why I love that book.

Unfortunately I would bet a large amount of parents don't ask questions or really put that much thought into their gym choice. It's a lot of this gym is close, this gym is where Suzie's friends are, this gym was the first we found on the google search, etc.

If it were me I think coaching is #1. If there are great coaches, who can motivate/love/teach the kids CORRECTLY, then that is the most important in my eyes. If the coaching is great, then the competitions/winning will follow.

Organized office would rank 2nd. This is big, but if the gym is phenomenal in the learning environment and CP (in my case future CP) is thriving, then having to deal with not the best business people becomes a little more tolerable. You're right though, it is a big thing that people don't pay attention to, unless it is bad!

Level and age group surprisingly rank 3 to me on this list. I think its really important to keep true to level and age. However I go back to if the coaches are phenomenal, then age and level aren't as big of a deal as long as they're close. Level 5 athlete on level 2 team, might make me look else where if there are other good options, but if its a level difference and CP is still thriving and having fun, then the importance of age/level drops some.

Lastly is winning in my book. Don't get me wrong, I love to win! However it isn't the most important thing in the world and will not make me go to one gym over the other. So many gyms go against no one or 1 other team, and then broadcast that "win" everywhere.

This is bs advice, I tried this and all I did was waste three years of my life in college trying to obtain something that had no future. Then I got to start all over again..... YAY ME:D
I still think people should find a career they enjoy, but make sure its not gonna make you broke for 20 something years, cause you will still be miserable even with that dream job making no money.
My mom still to this day gives me crap for not joining the military like I always said I was going to through out the course of high school and college.

I'm doing it, not making any money but loving what I do and honestly being INVENTIVE about how I spend my time.
