Mine were caused by two issues that were discovered quite by accident. I was getting frequent sinus infections that led to some CT scans and a scope to see what was going on in my sinus cavity. They discovered I had no frontal sinus cavity which wasn't a bad thing it just meant I would not have a singing career which I already knew. The doctor asked if I had migraines and I told him I in fact did. He said what was happening was as my sinuses would stop up pressure would build but not in the frontal cavity (since I don't have one) but rather the back. The problem became that once the pressure had built in the back cavity there was already a tremendous amount of pressure in my head and that would trigger the migraine. They did surgery to fix severly deviated septums as he called it which has all but eliminated the sinus infections but I also know the warning signs to a possible migraine (stiff, aching neck) and have learned to address them immediately which has helped control them tremendously. Good luck with everything and prayers go out to you and your family.

I don't have any solutions to offer, as it sounds like you've tried everything and are maybe getting close to an answer? Just wanted to say, as someone who has spent many a night in the hospital with severe migraines (mine turned out to be related to blood pressure and hormones, which I obviously don't think is your cp's problem since she is not a fluffy almost 40 year old like me...), I just hope to god they get it figured out for her soon. I wouldn't wish these on my worst enemy, seriously - and I wish some pretty ugly things on enemies  Good luck!

She is 8, but will turn 9 in August. She just finished 4th grade & is going into 5th grade. She said bending her neck down at the desk for that long made her neck hurt & then it turned into the worst migraine she has ever had. Blurry vision, vomiting, physically drained, etc.

I am really glad that her school teachers & her cheer Coach are so understanding & willing to work with us around her migraine issues. I don't want it to make her put her life on hold.

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I also suffer a history of migraines but not that severe. They will I think you're on the right track with focusing on the migraines originating from her neck. I would definitely recommend going to a chiropractor. I was in a car accident in January and I had a migraine for about a week. After being adjusted regularly, my migraines decreased dramatically in severity and duration. Good luck and make sure to keep us posted!!

I get really terrible confusional/disorientating migraines, and my big trigger is fluorecent lights. Definetly try the tinted sports goggles.

ETA: Didn't see the updated posts:oops:

I know of a medication that can PREVENT migraines before she gets them. I haven't read through all of the posts so I don't know how old your CP is nor if she has tried this medication before, nor if this medication can be prescribed for children, but I am on it and it is a GODSEND!! It has prevented my migraines and
made the migraines that I do get much more mild and infrequent. It's called TOPAMAX and requires a prescription. There is a MAJOR side effect of weight loss- I lost 90 pounds while on it, which wasn't such a bad thing since I did need to lose the weight anyways. My migraines are post-menigitis migraines (I had meninigitis and as a result of this I now get migraines. I never had them before I had meningitis) and no other medication seemed to help. Maybe discuss this medication with your doctor and see if this is a possible alternative method of treatment to see if this may help. Good luck!!
I take Topamax daily for my migraines also. :) Then Relpax as needed if I do get a migraine. I have not lost 90 pounds though! lol. I only wish for 30... haha.

I hope they do find a solution soon. Sounds like you are on the right path though! With doctors that are willing to look at everything.

I took Topamax and it was not working for me at all. My dosage was ridiculously high, but it still didn't help. I tried neurontin, which made me break out in cystic acne and rashes (woohoo! I was the 1 in 1,000 for side effects!). I had no idea there were others with the same problems on here :)

I think Topamax is hit or miss. It really works for some and then others say it didn't - and then they had bad side effects. For me, it has lessened my migraines - which I was getting very frequently. So I am thankful that it has helped. I still do get migraines occasionally, but also take Relpax right when I feel one coming on - and it usually stops it. I wasnt a big proponent on taking alot of medications - but I was desperate and after speaking with my neurologist I tried it, and so far so good - I know others that have had success with it, and then some that havent. But hopefully a good neurologist can come up with other alternatives when one thing doesn't work.

I agree about Topamax being hit or miss. I am on a fairly high dose of Topamax and that is the reason for the drastic weight loss, but it was helping so my doctor kept on increasing it until finally the migraines were under control and I became symptom free. The weight loss was being managed by my family MD and I was actually worked up for some other underlying issues because of the massive amount of weight loss- 90 pounds in 9 months- but after all conditions were ruled out, the weight loss was just attributed to the medication. My weight did level off and I'm doing fine with the weight and my migraines. I guess what I'm trying to say is that each person is different and there are many resources and methods of treatment for migraines out there so don't give up hope; you will find an answer and relief sometime, and I hope soon. There are many researchers trying to find what helps people and what causes these painful conditions so there will be an answer some day soon. Hang in there!!

Kris I have been thinking about your CP all day. I hope the tests went well and they can fix the source of the problem. Keep us posted.

Thank you. It seems like the test went well. They are suppose to call on Monday with the results. Thanks!

Make sure you call them on Monday if they don't get right back to you. I had an MRI/EEG scan last year, and they never called with the results. My mom called like crazy, and they got back to us finally. Hospitals can be crazy and forget things, so don't hesitate to be pushy! :D

Thanks, Update: she has a benign lesion (non cancerous). The doctors believe this has been causing her migraines. We will be seeing a cranial facial specialist about having it removed. This is very good news. Thank you for keeping her in your prayers. :)
Yay! Sorry that she has to go through all of this, but at least it's diagnosed and is treatable. Y'all have been, and still will be in my prayers!

Omg I'm so glad they found something that they can treat. I hope this does the trick for her. I hate that she has to go through that, but hopefully it'll get rid of these migraines once and for all.

Update: The Neurologist Specialist said that the lesion is benign. His conclusion was based on her based on her MRI, CT Scan, and blood work. Now I am being given some conflicting information. The Facial Cranial Specialist just explained to me Thursday, after they remove the lesion it will be sent off for a biopsy. He said a biopsy is necessary to determine if a lesion is benign or malignant. My CP understands everything that is going on. She has a very positive and joyful attitude! She said she is happy she has a doctor that is being extra careful. That is the kind of doctor she is going to be one day! Her surgery will be this Wed. at the Children's Dell Center In Austin. Thanks for all the prayers.
