Agree here. The first seven years we did 5-7 competitions in a season, last season was 15 (if I counted correctly) three requiring flights, 3-9 hour drives, 4- 4-5 hour drives etc. Not only did it nearly break the bank (and we make good money) but the time out of school and work was insane. I probably burned more vacation time last year than in the past 3-4 combined and the kids have never been in double digit school absences until last year. Plus, competing is fun but fighting with cp14 over hair and makeup and the dh rushing me to make meeting times is frequently grounds for divorce or homicide and I'd rather do that 6-7 times than 15. Travel competitions are stressful.I have got to admire your zeal for wanting a lot of competitions but believe it or not it can get old because it does wear on you after a bit.
Am not sure where you live but it might be hard to find that many competitions within a reasonable driving distance which means more travel, higher cost, to compete that often in an already expensive sport. That could turn away a lot of younger parents.

Just hope you both get off to a good start on the whole hair/make-up (especially the mini years when you have to meet competition ready at 7:30am most of the time) thing and your child doesn't become the demon diva many of ours do when the hairspray, combs, teasing brushes and eyeliner comes out.Thank you all for your answers, three of the five are away, two day competitions. I guess I am just anxious for the season to begin, I will probably feel different after that first competition.

Oye.
Thankfully mine can do her own make up now and sometimes I can luck up with getting a teammate (or when I'm reallllllly lucky @mstealtoyou's middle who's amazing!) to do her hair. They can pull, spray, tug and tease all they want and she smiles quietly....for 8 years she's growled, yelled and been evil to me.
No mini or tiny? That is really surprising to me. Just always assumed they had those teams. We do 10 and the same competitions for all teams but unfortunately we don't have a tiny or mini team to compare it too. All our mini aged kids are mostly on youth 1 which still do all competitions.
3 out of state 2 day competitions (most would fly)
2 local 1 day competitions
2 local 2 day competitions
1 in state but 3.5 hr drive 1 day comp
2 in state but 4-5 hr drive 2 day comps

Haven't had one since! Our youth 1&2 usually have a lot of mini aged kids though!
