An Event Producer giving money to a team that didn't pay entry fees doesn't make sense to me, but I still say it's their choice since it's their money.

I didn't even realized that there were competitions where open teams didn't pay entry fees. Certainly not at the large competitions. I've always paid to compete, I don't think I've gotten a reduced rate either.

But I do want to add that from my point of view, IO5 teams do not pay any fees to the gym. Keep in mind I only have one point of view. If you are out of high school and on a IO5 team that you have to pay fees for, you need to consider relocating.

they need to take more than three teams from the US for real that rule needs to change at least top 5 seriously because good teams are going to get left out.

I want to make one more comment and then I will be quite. (no I wont because I get really frustrated)

Try sitting in the arena on Sunday waiting on bid announcements, as a parent who has spent thousands of dollars to that point, knowing your team is in line for a paid bid. Then the announcer lets you know the a team of twenty somethings is going to worlds for free. The word free is used loosely. Now this team of twenty somethings was amazing, and should be with their age and talent level. Sorry, I know I sound bitter and it's because I was. Give the paid bids to the parents. They are the ones who have EARNED it.

Please don't try to convince me other wise by telling me how some programs use the IO levels for their L5. The big programs that dominate those divisions are full up with the twenty somethings.

My mom has spent thousands on cheerleading, and last year when i was on international she spent more money. there were also "twenty somethings" (as you call us) on the team who worked to pay for their cheerleading. Why should we not be allowed to receive paid bids. We work just as hard as senior teams, and in a lot of cases, pay just as much. We also have to pay for school, apartments, bills, etc. . . i'm confused as to how it's any different? everyone has stuff to pay for...that's life.

also, high school kids are just as capable as college kids when it comes to fundraising, getting a part time job, etc to pay to go to worlds.

I understand that Open Teams are't money makers, but I don't think it's fair to say that if you pay you're not on a good team. This is the first year I haven't had to pay a monthly tuition, but I pay for all of my competitions, uniforms, choreography, etc.

As for LESS teams going to worlds (aka making the event more prestigious) I think it is a double edged sword. What makes worlds so amazing is the ridiculous amount of teams there. After 90% of those teams are done (the ones just happy to be competing there) they turn around and sit in the stands and become the most crazed fervent fans you can imagine. They fill the air with a sense of importance and excitement that can't be described. If we lower the teams we lose that. BUT with so many teams it is harder to be accurately judged.

I remember the VERY FIRST Worlds. Definitely a different feel as there were only (8?) of us there. They had to shuffle parents and teams in and out to watch because there was just one set of bleachers on the sound stage behind "Who Wants To Be A Millionare?". It's come a long way. While I LOVE the energy in the Milk House now ... I agree that there are too many teams from the USA.

If we just reduce the amount of worlds bids (and not the amount of teams going for the bids) it is going to get VERY ugly at competitions. There will be a lot more bid traveling, taking individual teams to specific competitions, and rumors of bid favoring. The demand will not have gone down.. the supply will.

But reduce the demand, make the overall barrier to entry harder, and raise the prestige of just going to Worlds.

You continue to insinuate that college kids are all getting free rides at most gyms. That may be true in your area, but it is not the case here. I don't believe it to be the case for the majority of the strong International 5 teams either. Your point of view is different than my point of view.
