OT New New Random Thread...

I have a child (non-cp) with an illness that caused her to miss a lot of school. I had talked with our school administrators and they were aware of the situation. After missing 60 some days of school, I re-read our districts homebound student policy. She had to be out two full weeks to be eligible. So, I kept her out a couple of extra days and was contacted by the homebound teacher.

My point is if the absence is illness related there isn't much they can do about it. They could have charged me all they wanted, but in the end, the school did wrong and I would not have paid.

Absences for trips/non-school cheer/family vacations, once you hit a certain number, I can see charging. The schools only get money if your child is there.

Not sure how it is in your state, but if your non-cp has an illness that will cause continued school absence over the years, I would look into getting an IEP with a 504 plan. In this way, you would not have to wait 2 full weeks for her to be out but anytime she missed school she would be eligible for home instruction. In NY kids are eligible for 2 hours per day of home instruction when they are out of school and have met the criteria for home instruction.

So sad. I nearly went to that school and my grandfather taught there…
The shooter was some misogynist bitter at women for rejecting his advances. He apparently made a youtube video entitled his "retribution." I didn't watch the video but I heard some quotes from it. Seriously messed up dude.
I feel like there have been so many school shootings lately… or maybe I've never noticed them until recently. So upsetting… it kinda makes you scared to go to school.

As a girl, it makes me afraid to leave my house. To know that people feel the need to murder women because they simply aren't interested is terrifying. Pair this with all the rape and crimes that are targeted against women that the government refuses to acknowledge or try to control is so beyond scary.

She is being homeschooled now. And, I have pulled my two cps out of that school in our home district to the next county.

Non-cp didn't want an IEP/504 because she didn't want special treatment/to be different.

never heard of them, but i will 100% check them out (as long as they sell online, since there isn't one around here.) i'm no longer near a teavana either :( so just ordered online. i am also a fan of republic of tea. i do love new flavors of loose leaf, but i mostly shop at teavana/republic for matcha powder. teavana's tastes better, republic's is cheaper (but hurts the wallet more since it's in bulk, but is organic and non-GMO) if David's sells ceremonial grade matcha, i will certainly try it!

I'm suuuuuuper excited because maybe I can work on Tomorrowland! Hoping to get an email tomorrow and if I get hired I can work the first weekend and party the second.
I'm so hoping I get the job. Just love the atmosphere there, it's what gets me trough the rest of the year mostly. That and cheer ;)

TYPING THIS FROM MY NEW MACBOOK AIR :cheering: first of all, my dad is the greatest. he told me there was absolutely no way I was getting any type of mac even though I've wanted one forever. literally since I was in kindergarden and my best friend's entire family had macs and i had to have one because i think they're so much easier to use! and my elementary and middle schools had them so I'm not mac-illy impaired. and then today we went to best buy to get my laptop and he was like if you really want a mac i'll pay for 1/2 of it.... and i hate windows 8 with a burning passion SO i really didn't want to get a new windows laptop because our family laptop is windows 8 and it's terrible. BUT HEY I GOT A MAC :D me so happy! and i feel good because i payed for 1/2 myself, and thats a big girl step for me because for some reason I've been saving money (more big girl steps for me)
I also got a credit card this week.
I also go to traffic court this week.
I AM OLD.
and i'm probably going to be posting a lot more again since i finally have a working computer! i miss fierce board :(
