Not sure how it is in your state, but if your non-cp has an illness that will cause continued school absence over the years, I would look into getting an IEP with a 504 plan. In this way, you would not have to wait 2 full weeks for her to be out but anytime she missed school she would be eligible for home instruction. In NY kids are eligible for 2 hours per day of home instruction when they are out of school and have met the criteria for home instruction.I have a child (non-cp) with an illness that caused her to miss a lot of school. I had talked with our school administrators and they were aware of the situation. After missing 60 some days of school, I re-read our districts homebound student policy. She had to be out two full weeks to be eligible. So, I kept her out a couple of extra days and was contacted by the homebound teacher.
My point is if the absence is illness related there isn't much they can do about it. They could have charged me all they wanted, but in the end, the school did wrong and I would not have paid.
Absences for trips/non-school cheer/family vacations, once you hit a certain number, I can see charging. The schools only get money if your child is there.
