Thanks! My first day was today and it went really well! I did learn some ASL, like "stunt," "liberty," "water," "spotter," "from the top," and some others that were pretty useful to me. I think I know all of the girls' name signs too. My interpreter is GREAT so there was very little frustration. It's a very, very humbling experience! Can't wait to go back tomorrow!! :D

On our first special needs team at Kentucky Elite, one of the athletes was deaf. The first ASL sign I learned was "sorry" and it was very useful!!

The Fierce Board: where 16 out of 20 voice overs are allowed...

We have a deaf athlete (well, she has hearing aids, but has profound loss). When she was little, we always made sure she could see us when we were speaking. Even now (she's 12) I'll make sure she can see my face if I'm talking to her. We've had an interpreter at our banquet for her, but not at practice.

She's adorable! I hope she becomes a make-up artist because my eyeliner did not look that good at 13! Love that she wants to wear red lipstick daily, I'm obsessed with lipstick. Remove the lipstick and it's exactly how I used to do my make up everyday, but after working at Abercrombie and not being able to wear eyeliner, I realized that I actually don't look as much as an alien w/o eyeliner as I thought. So because of that my daily is just mascara and blush hahaha.
You can't wear eyeliner @ Abercrombie? Interesting. I really do look like an alien w/o at least bottom eyeliner. My hair and eyebrows are so dark that I have to wear it or my face looks so off balance and my eyes like disappear. It's a problem. But it's easy to just swipe some on and go.

Nope! You're supposed to be all natural but I did a bit of cover up, bronzer, blush and mascara. You're hair could only be certain ways too. You used to not be able to do nail polish (pink and reds on toes only) but I believe you can now.

How were you supposed to do your hair?
The look policy (just had to google it real quick since I didn't fully remember it lol) said " clean, natural and classic styles". Basically your natural style or any way that didn't look like you had spent a lot of time one it (so no curls unless they are natural). I straightened mine every day. You could do like a loose pony or braid if you wanted or wear one of the headbands we sold. You couldn't have any unnatural looking hair colors either.

Here's a picture from the look policy. I can't seem to find one of the styles though.

So I've wondered, completely out of curiosity, is working at Abercrombie is horrible as everyone (mostly on the internet) says it is?

I didn't think it was bad at all! It was my first "real job" besides babysitting. The people are all really friendly and the work isn't exactly hard. Before my interview I googled what it was like to work at A&F and it seemed like everyone either really loved it or hated it. Let's see about this article...

1). Truth. We did have to go around and spray the fragrance. I was pumped when I got to do that job because I loveee the smell of Fierce.
2). True, I can never listen to Come
And Get It by Selena Gomez again.
3). No idea.
4). No idea about benefits but I believe all three of my managers had their degrees.
5). Half true. Employees are either models or impacts. You choose which you want to be on your application. "Models" are basically sales associates. That's what I was. We were in the front of the store, registers, basically on the floor. "Impacts" were in the back doing stuff in the stock room and running clothes into the floor occasionally. Not really based of looks, more based on personality. Outgoing people were typically models and shy were impacts. Once again, YOU picked which you wanted to apply for.
6). True. I was scouted while in the store shopping with my cousin and sister (who was also scouted). Basically if they think you look like the brand they will tell you to apply. They don't stay "hey you're pretty, apply". She just asked if I had a job and then told me they had openings and that I should apply. You can also apply without being scouted.
7). Ehhh. You dressed based on that seasons style guide. But I mean I guess I never saw anyone get yelled at for wearing a crop top.
8). Only had to watch shoplifting videos during orientation.
9). True, although I never had anyone pull a knife on a manager. I did have a manager have me watch people because she could tell they were gonna steal.
10). I never stole anything (or would dare to dream about it). They check you bags before you leave. My brother had a friend who worked there way before me and I think he (the friend not my brother) had stole from the store before.
11). SO TRUE! There were certain tag lines you had to say when customers walk in. I always answer my phone with "hey how's it going" now out of habit. There were also tag lines at cash wrap and when people left the store.
12). True! Secret shoppers came in to judge us on if we said tag lines, how neat the store looked and such.
13). False. Never was I ever told to do that.
14). True. You could be picked to be "cast of" which meant you had the possibility of being chosen to be a legit model for the store
15). Not true. I was never told that, always told to ask the customer for help (especially so they wouldn't mess up our perfectly folded jean wall!!)
16). Half true. I did legit go back and ask questions a couple of times, but when an impact was back there, but if nobody was back there I had no idea how the clothes were organized in the bays so I couldn't find the size or whatever they wanted.
17). False. We only made fun of adults who came in and complained about how small the sizes were because they didn't realize they were in the kids store, not the adult store hahaha.
18). We didn't have anyone who didn't speak English.
19). False. You got a half an hour for lunch for shifts over five hours.
20). False. Was never told to do that.
21). False! We got employee discount at every A&F store (Hollister, Abercrombie, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Gilly Hicks)
22). False!! Never ever saw that happen.
23). No idea, I guess true, I mean I only worked summer.

Yikes that was long. Hope that answers all your questions! If not just ask :)

I figured that was dramatized. It sounds like it could actually be pretty fun to work there (I love Fierce too, I think I'd love running around spraying it :D). I've always been scared I'm not personable enough to work retail though so I might would be one of those people in the back. (Oh, and the idea of scouting is so cool to me. I got invited to work at Buckle once- nothing I was wearing was actually from Buckle, ironically- and was kind of on cloud 9 the whole day.)

You should apply! The interview is so chill. I'm definitely a shy person but it's really not that bad working in the front. The back isn't bad either. Sometimes I wish I worked back there because it seemed like they always had something to do and when you're put in the front. you're only allowed to stay up there (cuz you have to tag line people right away) and it gets real boring if nobody is in the store and everything is folded to standard already. My favorite thing was being on the register and doing shipment.

It literally made my day when I got scouted. I always thought I wasn't pretty enough to work there (before I knew it wasn't just all looks) so when they scouted me I was so excited hahah

Can anyone explain (or point me to the right thread) the difference between level 5 and 6. I get that they can have taller pyramids and they can flip and twist in baskets, but I don't see the point in a whole new level, and also, why people generally get more excited about level 5? Thanks

The stunting is a level higher, there are less tumbling restrictions, it uses a different score sheet & a different age grid.

Level 5 probably gets more attention because there are more divisions than just coed and all girl, therefore being a bigger pool of athletes and more opportunities.

Plus there is a higher concentration of school-aged athletes at level 5. Also, level 6 doesn't place much emphasis on tumbling.

Level 6 teams are also age 17 and up. International 5s can be 14 and up.

Just found out there's an ACE location 50 minutes from where my family is moving. I may or may not be hyperventilating (mostly kidding but OMG!) And my mom just emailed them about a private tryout for my sister. This is literally answered prayers because the gym we first looked at had a 32 kid youth 2 team so there was nothing we could do, and this ACE has a junior 2! :cloud9:
