I had my first official "my babies are seniors" cry tonight. My cp's twin brother had his last varsity basketball game.

It will come a lot faster than you would think, and those high school years just seem to fly especially fast. I know the goal is to raise strong independent young adults, but it is bittersweet when they are about to take wing.

im currently making my NCA packing list. and its making me SO excited!
i want to put some of my NCA pins on my back pack, but im afraid stupid people will steal them =/ and im obsessed with my pins so i would prolly cry
my list is missing a lot of things, but i have no idea what at the moment.
i can not wait for NCA because im only on 1 team there, and not coaching any. i can sit back, and watch in the arena all say except when our dance teams are on, and coed and junior 4. and i can shop at the spirit shop looking for new pins and feel like a normal athlete for once ;) haha
speaking of NCA, just emailed my staffing director my summer update packet back, SO EXCTED for summer! #ncaobsessed
welp, im tired. im going to bed. practice tomorrow, YAY (:

Just have to vent... and this is going to make me sound like a grandma, but I swear I'm only 23.

I'm just wondering when it became acceptable for high school aged students to be SO disrespectful to teachers and other kids? I've been working at a local high school for years in the special ed department (my mom's the director, so I've been working summer camps and college breaks forever). However over the past year, they've had me work in more gen ed classes and these kids are awful. I really feel so old saying this, but seriously, swearing, blatantly ignoring teachers, using phones/ipods, walking in and out of class as they please are all very unnecessary behaviors. I don't know if it's this generation (a few other teachers have blamed it on this) or what, but it's so obnoxious. So, now that I'm eating ice cream and relaxing after a day from hell, all I have to say is this... Students - listen to your teachers!!! They work unbelievably hard for barely any pay. They're there to help you succeed in life, not make you miserable. I promise. Think about it the next time you're in class and don't feel like working, or choose to text instead of listen to the instructions (and then have to ask me what to do because you weren't paying attention), please. Also, I don't want to hear what you and your girlfriend plan on doing this weekend. Save that talk for lunch or the parking lot, not my classroom. Parents - your kids may be well-behaved in front of you, but please try to instill lasting values so that they're respectful outside your home. Understand that these teachers are there to help your kid become successful in whatever he/she chooses, they're not there to give your kid tons of homework and be unreasonable. They just want to be treated with respect, and it's your job to teach your kids that.

My word I sound so old and prudish. Sorry. Rant over. Back to ben & jerry's!

Sadly, I agree. There are days I listen to kids and think "where did you learn that?" I wish I could have parents see the things their kids say when they aren't around. It's unreal.

Also, I have some shirts I want to trade, but am hesitant with the new trading thing. I love the rating system, but I don't exactly want to make a listing. Maybe it's because I never look there (so I assume nobody else does either) but I always looked when it was a forum. Blehhh.

IMO for the most part it goes back to the parents. Too many want to be buddies with their kids and don't teach them that there is a difference between being a kid and being an adult. And yes this may seem like it goes right up there with "in my day I walked umpteen miles to school - up hill - both ways", BUT when I was in school and got it trouble, heaven help me when I got home. Now, half the time it seems little Suzi's mom comes charging up to the school demanding to know what is wrong with the teacher because heaven knows "her Suzi" never does anything wrong. And regrettably, too many school's bureaucrats act as though they are afraid of the parents:confused:.

UGH exactly, thank you, glad I'm not the only one. I'm not a full-time teacher, so I don't get half the crap they get, but I feel as though everyday there are more and more parents calling the school, or kids saying, "I'll just have my mom call and I'll get out of it". OH REALLY? What type of lessons are you teaching your kids?! I just don't get how these 'parents' can feel comfortable yelling at teachers via email or phone calls, because their child is being utterly disrespectful. It's not even like discipline can help; detentions and ISS (in school suspensions) mean nothing to these kids, they've lost their effect. And it's not all the kids, there a few 'diamonds in the rough' if you will, and even they're astonished at their peers' behaviors. It's just frustrating because I like working with kids most of the time, yet this type of behavior a) worries me for these kids' futures when the real world slaps them in the face and b) makes it really difficult for teachers to accomplish everything they need to if they're constantly chasing after kids. And, really, I get it, high school can be tough, but I guarantee you it's a lot easier if you allow the teachers to do their jobs. Okay, now I'm really done. Sorry everyone, back to cheer!
