Judges in figure skating sit right alongside the ice. Judges in cheer are pretty far back (sometimes I've been as much as 50-60 yards from the floor).
I'm not at all disregarding your opinion. If one judge on here sees it as a problem it may represent the opinion of others and should be assessed as such by the coaches.

Where I differ is in how I would weight being able to capture a 9 or 10-year-old child's interest and hopefully founding a lifelong love of the sport against placing high on the subjective areas of a score sheet. If the children see that it's all work and all about winning you may very well lose them. If it's fun and they are happy doing it? Maybe they won't mind the work that lies ahead quite as much.

Again, I don't like the tutus and I certainly wouldn't want to see them on a Junior or Senior team, although Kyle has definitely captured my interest in possibly seeing Prodigy in such fancy attire. Especially since they are Coed. Did you envision the tulle bows too? ;-)

This is a Youth team.

I think the tutus are downright adorable for a youth team! Like someone else said if my cp felt a tutu would make her fly/tumble better..I would buy her multiple colors! At Christmas Celebration, the kids are allowed to wear costumes to compete in...we have seen elves, tutus, knee high striped socks with fur and santa hats...nothing surprises me anymore :-)
It's stuff like that that makes kids love the sport and stick with it because it's fun and not work. By the time they are level 5 the love is so ingrained you can wean them off the tutu :D
And yes there is absolutely no pill for the MeanJ...

I saw a picture of what looks like a new SOT uniform on Facebook but i'll let someone else post it. I AM IN LOVE WITH IT THOUGH! Perfect combination of their classic style with a modern edge.

I know this is the uniform thread, but I have to say that using the reasoning that it is a youth team and they do fun costumes to "capture their interest" doesn't work for me. My daughter is 9 and for her cheer is not about wearing tutus and playing games and she LOVES it. She competes level 3 & has fun and gets enjoyment from doing all of the work that is required to compete at that level. Working hard and winning at your sport is fun, be it cheer, soccer, softball etc. If you have a love for the sport of Cheer (or any sport) you are willing to put in the work, at any age. She has fun working on learning her half and full, learning to base new stunts...tonight she came bouncing out of the gym because she was able to base 360's and switch ups consistently. I honestly can say I they asked her to put on a tutu she would probably quit. Cheer is not a joke or something she does to hang out and have fun. It is a sport to her that she works hard at and takes seriously, she strives to be on a level 4 or 5 team and wants to be like those athletes....none of whom are wearing tutus on their cheer unis.

Again, each to their own. I think there are teams that are NO fun and win. There are teams that have TOO MUCH fun, and win. There are teams that balance having fun, and being strict that win. No one way its the wrong way. I can't speak for Ultimate as a whole, but I can speak for myself. I think its safe to say that my kids enjoy my balance as a coach of being able to be very strict and push them (I am a conditioning guru), but also a big softy and emotional when I need to be to be able to connect. I have coached kids that have not liked my coaching style, and have chose another gym. No harm no foul. Some kids want to be pushed harder, or have MORE fun, and don't like having both at the same time. Thats okay. I had a High School Coach that was too much fun, and all I wanted to do was work harder then she would push us. I had a college coach that would push me too hard and practices were not really ever fun. I coach how I wish I could have been coached, and each coach will have their own experience.

Where did you see the new ones?

Wondering too because I have to see how they made it work. Still wondering why they would get another uniform after just getting a new one a month or two ago unless they just had orange added to the new ones.

Wait if you are talking about the one on their facebook page that looks like they took a few steps back and went oldschool. Are you sure it is new because the other pictures are their new uniforms from a few months ago.

Is this what you are referring to? *sorry if the faces need covered but it is posted on their facebook page*
