From what I have heard from a Cheersport executive, STP is not something they gyms are a part of or the competition companies. For example, Cheersport Atlanta is the 5th highest grossing event in Atlanta each year. STP is required by the city so that they can keep track of how much $$ the event is bringing into the city. It's for numbers, all about stats. Also, I've compared pricing before. The hotel we stayed in last year at cheersport was discounted about half the price of what it would have been if I were to book directly through the hotel. I'm probably in the minority, but I don't mind the STP. Now, some gyms will require you to use gym blocks even if the event isn't a STP. That I don't care for too much.
But can't they do that without STP? Based on what I'm hearing most people are paying (in comparison to what they paid pre-STP), it sounds like a ploy to increase profits. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just that it doesn't have to happen through jacking up prices and allowing less flexibility in hotel bookings.

Isn't it just common sense that pretty much every hotel within say a 10 mile radius is being booked by people going to Cheersport?

I'm not sure if it's all true, but that's what a Cheersport executive told me. I don't know how it increases profit when I paid $149 a night last year but if I booked directly with the hotel it would have been $289 a night. There was another STP comp we did last season and there was no discount, actually would have cost $10 more if booked STP rather than direct.

Thinking about it, I'm sure they could track the money w/o STP since they do it for other events. Just not sure how they do it. LOL When we have big events here in charlotte, they do jack the prices of hotels up that are center city. A LOT. I don't know much about basketball, but there was a lot of chatter about how much hotels increased the cost for some basketball event. A lot of mad people. I guess it's just a business and it sucks. lol

I think thats a cool idea to have sports bra as a shell. I was thinking it could be used as just a practice wear. Then a CEA parent pointed that out before I could write it lol. Plus it looks easy to put on.

**I promise I don't eat children and I am not gross looking**

My two cents on STP. Yes you actually get discounted rates (I checked) at the hotels you can choose from BUT these hotels are higher end (sort of) than I would choose. In past years I would save money on travel by staying at good old Comfort Suites. Clean, comfy bed, free breakfast. Now I am getting "discount" but much higher rates than Comfort hotels at Sheratons, Marriotts, Hiltons, Crowne Plazas and parking charges at the hotels, etc. Sure these hotels are nice but I ain't moving in. It's just a bed! I'm just sleeping there a few hours. So even at discounted rates STP isn't doing me any favors by keeping me from going to cheaper places like Comfort Suites etc. So for those of you who normally stay at Hilton, Sheraton, Crowne, etc. yeah, you are getting a deal. But for those of you who look for budget hotels, you are out of luck.
