Okay, so I think we need to establish reason here. Do you want to move Worlds because it's fair to split up time and costs between East and West coasts? Or do you want to move it because of the # of people coming and the fact that it's crowded?
Limiting the # of competitions that give out bids would actually harm the cheer-conomy more than help it. You want as many companies as you can giving out paid bids, otherwise a lot of teams wouldn't be able to afford to get there (I'm assuming). If you take away a bid from a company, they are not going to want to support USASF and would more than likely lose their major source of income (their Bid competition) because people won't want to go if they don't have a chance at something.
Limiting the number of bids wouldn't necessarily fly with everyone, but limiting the way you give out bids could help a bit. Say a team has to meet a point threshold to be eligible for a bid - not just the winning team in a division. Say a team has to earn X% of the maximum number of points to be eligible for a full paid bid. A little lower % for partial, and even lower % for at-large. However, I will say this to play devil's advocate --every team has an off day. So what if all teams in a division had issues one weekend and scored super low? Would you be okay with WCSS or Orange not receiving a bid during a season because they only had 3 chances (if there were only 3 locations to get a bid) and had an off day and couldn't meet the point limit?
It may be about money, but it has a right to be. It's a business like any other - the MLB, NFL, NCAA, etc. You want to get awareness out there but you don't want to pay for it? That's not gonna fly. Disney makes a TON of money off of Worlds and I wouldn't be surprised for them to put up a huge fight if USASF/IASF wanted to try to move it. People get excited about Disney because its OMG DISNEY. There aren't too many places in the world that have a draw like that. Move the competition to somewhere random and people stop bringing their kids/friends/whatever because who wants to go to Kansas City or Seattle with a group where there isn't too much that would interest a family with kids under 10? or 5? I think that it would be fair to switch coasts just so the West Coast kids get a break in their jet lag and their wallets and on that reason alone I think it's enough to say it should be switched every year. BUT it needs to be realized that changing something this large could have a major impact on the sport as a whole.
In other news, there NEEDS to be a universal score sheet, but that's beating a dead horse. I think everyone agrees on that point.
