I don't know how it works for the more recreational runners. But the men start before the women because they're faster. I would assume the more recreational runners go after both the competitive men and women.

That's pretty much how it works. Have a friend (girl) who ran today and she's okay. Was near the finish when it happened but not hurt thankfully.

What. Is. Wrong. With. People?!

We leave for Boston Thursday for my graduation just a few blocks from there. Smh.

my sister was there spectating and a friend from college was running in it. he was in the group directly behind the bombs. both are okay, but that was a scary reality check.

for anyone with a loved one there - there is basically zero cell service for call or texts, so do your best to be patient. both contacted me through facebook because that seems to be all that's working at the moment.

so incredibly sad. the world becomes a scarier place everyday.

so much confusion right now. another explosion by the JFK Library about 20 minutes ago. Three other bombs found and detonated. It's just awful.

If everyone could please say a prayer for my family has my uncle is in the hospital now being treated for this horrific event. This week has not been easy for me starting with my friend being in jail for reasons that will go unmentioned, another friend passing away, me and my apartment almost falling victim to home invasion, and now this. Please keep me, my family and everyone affected by this in your thoughts

I saw a video online that I think NBC posted on twitter. The camera was pointing at the where the first explosion was and the girl says "something exploded" and then I guess the second one happens and everything starts shaking and people scream and the girl behind the camera says something like "everyone run" or something. It was scary to watch. I can't even imagine being there. Stay safe everyone and many prayers to Boston!

Really scary day in this area. VERY thankful to say that all of my friends and family in and around Boston are safe. Thinking of everyone! Stay in today, don't go venturing around!

ETA A lot of my friends are trying to find something to compare this to.. We're all scared and the closest thing we can relate this to is 9/11. Though I barely remember it and was also affected then, it's crazy to think how much has changed since. There was absolute no cell service then, no smart phones, no Facebook, barely any internet in general. In comparison, I am very blessed to think that much worse things could have happened.

I've gone to this event all 24 years of my life, until this year because I work in NH now and don't have it off. My dad has run Boston over 20 times and we always went to watch together. It's always been a big part of our relationship and my life. This is just so unreal. I don't understand people. The videos and pictures are so so horrific. I'm just in tears watching this. I do know that friends who were running and a couple who were spectating are okay, just shook up, so that's at least a little beacon of hope. Hope that anyone here who knows someone running/spectating is able to find them quickly! Prayers for all!!
