Random question,

Does anyone know if level 6 gets the 3 wildcard alternates for worlds that level 5 does? Based on reading the worlds packet, it seems like no, that level 6 has their own alternate rules, but it seemed overly restrictive.

Plus I saw at least one level 6 team advertising for athletes on twitter after they got their bid awhile back, which wouldn't make sense per the level 6 rules.

The way I read it is that all 10 potential alternates could be "wildcard" alternates that didn't compete with the team when the bid was received. Based on it saying "up to 10 additional athletes that did not have the opportunity to perform on the floor at the event". I could be way off though.

Yeah but they're not really a "wildcard" if you have to submit their name in advance. It reads to me like you can only make your team from the people that competed on the mat plus the 10 alternates you submit.

If you get a bid in January and none of your 10 alternates can fill in for whatever reason (and I can assure you that we listed 10 names all season without actually confirming if those 10 could go to worlds, it was more like here's 10 people we can try and ask), you can't pull in some stranger to help you out the way you can on level 5.

I am not the one dealing with this directly at our gym, but I believe L6 is less restrictive in it's substitution/alternate policy than L5. I know that for us, L6 teams are always in a more constant "flux" than our other teams. It is somewhat the nature of the beast with those divisions.

I've had mine done for almost four years now and it still closes up within a few hours. I've had clear plastic ones that I used when I wasn't supposed to have it in

We use GroupMe for CP's tiny team. It is great because if we have a question, we can publicly ask and usually get an answer in a couple of hours. Without a group chat, you might have to field the same question 15 times. Parents don't always look at the letters or emails. I like parent meetings, but they take up time and sometimes parents don't show up.

It's a great way to have constant communication without having to get everyone together all at once.

They can definitely be a source of drama and bullying, but this year our owner is in every team's GroupMe to try to control that. Another con is parents can mute them and then they are mostly pointless unless they check daily for new messages.

IMO it seems like it makes it easier for CP's coach to get information out.

My CP is on a youth team, we use GroupMe too. I really like it and prefer it over email for quick reminders and updates.

We use Team App where you can post schedules, documents, and newsletters. There's a chat function but stopped using it because it got a little dramatic. I know some team moms started their own GroupMe. We use Remind101 to send quick mass texts of info like where to meet or if anything has suddenly changed.

People took more responsibility ;) - I remember my mom would write out a calendar that we would put in our laundry room indicating all our obligations for the month, practice times, meeting times, competition dates....
Now that information is available almost instantly via group chat- people don't plan nearly as efficiently IMO.

Personally I still use a calendar for everything, it's just in my phone now. [emoji16]

Also most information we get in GroupMe are reminders or info about things coming up. So reminders - didn't exist unless you saw the person or they called you, and info - would've been on a bulletin board. People don't look at bulletin boards anymore. If you had a question, had to call or wait until practice to ask.

People definitely took more responsibility to get the information themselves instead of just expecting to have it though.
