All-Star Sex Offender Arrested At Cheer Comp

Saw a sign on Pinterest..."Never underestimate my ability to find S&&& out!" Which should be the motto for all moms!
Seriously, though, this is a call for us ALL to be vigilant with our own kids and other CPs too. If someone/something doesn't look quite right, I would rather report and be embarrassed for being wrong than stay quiet and regret it for the rest of my life!

Years ago, I followed a guy in a mall for awhile because first I saw him alone and later I saw him with a little girl (maybe 3) and it just set off my uneasy alarm. Too long to go into but his actions just seemed a little off. After about 5-10 minutes a woman came up and joined them and the child's reaction made it obvious it was mom. Felt pretty stupid, but if I hadn't seen for myself the child was okay and had then later heard something had happened............. as you said, I would not want that feeling of "if I only...".

I thought the reason for the cover up rule was to portray a more positive, professional image?

Another thing to remember, though not as likely, is he could have been there for the boys just as much whom have typically been more covered up.

Keeping the girls more covered up doesn't hurt, though. This whole thing gives me the heebie jeebies. I know creepers are everywhere...at the beach, at the pool... That's why I always try to supervise my daughter and make sure I always know where she is...

Invited Dad to "National" competition when it was held in my local town..all he kept saying was " I cant believe our Boys are not here in uniform to take out all of these Peds" .. Yea.. he pointed out a few "sketchy" guys in a matter of minutes to me that I would NEVER have noticed. It IS scary and is somethimg all of "our" girls and boys need to be educated on...

You know, now that I think about it, I really don't EVER remember seeing actual uniformed officers at a competition. I realize cities have bigger issues to deal with, but you would think that at some of the bigger events there would be SOME actual uniformed officers.

Any officer that is a father would gladly donate a few hours if it wasnt "in the budget".. My father is retired and his eyes may be not as good but his are educated and willing. My girl is past All Star now but I still believe it to be a good idea for EP's to request "law enforcement" presence at major comps. Maybe contact a local gym to request volenteers? IDK but I never went to a comp with jaded eyes again and that was 7 yrs ago

Two words...Situational Awareness....
Being ex-Navy and my husband being ex-Army (yeah that gets fun) we have always drilled into our girls to ALWAYS be aware of the people around them and what they are doing (themselves and others). This has kept cp from being hit during tumbling passes, she is always the kid looking around after landing and when she is walking around the mat. They know not to talk on their cellphones while walking around a competition and to listen to that creeped out feeling you get in the back of your mind when you think someone is watching you.
Unfortuneatly there is really no way to prevent these people from showing up at a compeition but we can all be more aware of them and report when we see them.

Totally agree.." Pre Warned is Pre Armed"..Educate your children !! Just because that Mom is a "Nice Cheer Mom" doesnt mean she wont throw you in her mini van and lie to you about your family etc....Always taught my kids if you have that creepy feeling..then LISTEN TO IT !! 99.9% of the time ..it will hold true in some degree.. EDUCATE your kids and use buddy system works as well.. Creepers are EVERYWHERE...yeah Ewww..but it is fact and our kids are in this SPORT to grow strong and confident..they have the qualities already..just need moms and dads to remind them once in a while ..

Well flame me too!! I have all the same rules and set ups. My CP and I are closer than most parents/children (due to circumstances out of our control). She has yet (I said yet!!!) given me any reason to not trust her. In fact, you should see some of the things she sends me that other kids posted/said.

I'm a "bad parent too" 12 step!!

I agree that the cover up rule isn't going to do anything to stop this problem. I have heard several instances of men coming to young girls youth league soccer games (knee high socks, shorts going to the knee, and long shirts with high neck lines and sleeves to the elbow) and softball games (legs completely covered by long pants, knee high socks, and short sleeve shirts) and taking pictures. When confronted they pretended that they didn't understand English. It digusts me.

Crap..have to go here.. the "cover -up" rule covers children under 12 bellys...Whatever...Pedos are attracyed to "Cheer" because of the "short skirt" stigma...Happens at Rec level way before high school and they all wear full tops...Again.. was a cheerleader and dad was a cop..Creepers were at my Rec games..even "way back then"..I grew up with the idiotic "Stats" ....Just EDUCATE your kids.. and Buddy rule ALWAYS if you cant be there.

I would like to see event photographers show a little more discreetness when it comes to shooting competitions. There is no reason to take a picture of a scorpian from any viewpoint other than headon or from the "non pulling" side. The same goes for heel stretches....
