It's no longer summer in my house (Non-CP started Kindergarten this morning, CP went back last week); that means school is happening during the day for me (woo hoo)...I'm currently in the middle of a paper on healthcare and how socioeconomic diversity affects their care. Trust me, FB is just more fun than that.

Although, I mean if you'd like me to write you an itinerary of my day, I supposed I could do that, but I don't even give my husband one of those. However, you can expect to see me on more around now---and less at night...not that you should care or follow me around enough to notice. That is kinda creepy.

As for whether or not TG gets side eyed? I'm sure they do and they have been brought up in threads before. But the difference between TG and SMOED is something called a Reality YT Show. TG, and most other well known gyms for that matter, don't allow cameras into their doors. And for those who have; Jersey is all homegrown (to my understanding) and GymTyme doesn't count since it's international and most of those are there for college anyway...so yup, the poster child of cross country/cross-state cheer traveling is none other than SMOED! Hate to burst your bubble, but your comparison doesn't hold weight.

You should pop up more; you always provide me with such entertainment.

That sounds like a really interesting read.

endless shimmies. I was literally about to reply "ya but TG has class." but you said it way more respectfully than I would have..

How are we defining "home grown" again?
I think brought up through the gym--like spent the majority of their training time there. As in maybe they came to the gym and started at junior L2 and then moved up through the gym to senior L5.

Like the athletes at Cheerleaders:New Jersey... Majority of CJA athletes grew up in the gym- started on Lvl 1 teams and moved up to Lvl 5s.
Btw, I have to throw this in, Rachel-CJA Flyer aged off of 2014 WC Twinkles and was on the same team with my daughter. Additionally, my daughter was also on a Jr Lvl 1 team her first year cheering with Lybese too.

I'd even go so far as to classify homegrown as someone who's primary residence has historically been w/in a reasonable driving distance of the gym - as in homegrown to the area. We all know that many athletes get their start at smaller gyms close to home and then when they reach level 4-5 skill level often start commuting to farther away World's program gyms. But SMOED doesn't just have their pick of the Ventura area for this, or even California, they go worldwide.

I know top gun has done this for years and to some extent I don't consider them homegrown either - especially when it comes to male atheletes (but then again, most programs w/ lots of males rely on fly ins), but top gun, and most others, are much less "in your face" about it. Like a good portion of the web show is introducing each new athlete (aka recruit) and what part of the world they lived in before moving all this way for their chance to be on smoed.

Oops we did it again. Orby is on a twitter rant about fierceboard posts. As I said before, I don't have a problem with kids moving across the country to cheer where they want, and Smoed was a winning team prior to all of the self inflicted publicity, so I have no doubt he and Eddie know how to coach well. He is clearly missing the point about social media behavior though and is only adding to the reason why the gym has a poor reputation.

yep. (hi orby!)

I flat out asked on Twitter if the coaches will be getting the same social media training and guidance that athletes do, because it starts at the top. if they're displaying this embarrassing behavior, how can they expect the athletes to not. seems the coaches need it the most.

ETA: won't be getting an answer since he just blocked me

Again??? I'm sorry, but Orby, if you see this, please don't be passive aggressive. Just bite the bullet and come on here to comment, where people can actually clarify and have a discussion longer than 140 characters. There's no need to involve the whole twitter world in to something like that.

In regards to Top Gun versus Smoed/CALI. There is no comparison. Top Gun doesn't pimp out their program or their cheerleaders. They are classy and respectful on social media - and if one of their athletes isn't they find themselves off the roster. Top Gun doesn't advertise midseason for "one female base" (just using the most recent tweet as a reference but it happens all the time). Top Gun doesn't flip out at people walking by them at competitions (to find a quiet spot to make a business call) screaming at them to leave them alone. People go to Top Gun for many reasons other than publicity from a web series and chance to win Worlds and they don't have to recruit to get those athletes -the athletes come to them.

Just to jump off your post last year an English athlete who was very strong all around and wanted to be on a team that could medal at worlds made it on to TGLC. Not all international athletes want to try for SMOED because of things like shows or where they think they will get get the better training. That english athlete is now I believe on OO5 and is doing the UK super proud.

My opinion if I ever was good enough to be able to be on an international team between top gun or cali I would personally choose top gun. They keep it classy, creative and their athletes are just amazing.

I'm sorry, did he just compare Cali SMOED to an Olympic level team? I mean...really? The Olympics is about highlighting the best OUR COUNTRY has to offer---YOUR TEAM CONTINUES TO BRING SOME IN FROM OUT OF COUNTRY! Not saying the Olympics doesn't play the citizenship games, but you're comparing apples to guns. This is All-Star Cheerleading...you're never making the front of a Wheaties box or millions of dollars in endorsement deals.

Furthermore, I don't think you're the 'bad guy' for having an opinion, but I do find it hilarious that you won't man up and post in here yourself. You clearly have a lot to say.

He does have an account. He's just not utilizing that account at this moment. But he has one...he absolutely could jump in here.
but he's doing the smart thing and leaving it to look like a mature adult who actually wants to have a positive reflection on his gym.

ETA: not saying you can't stick up for your kids, but when you're that emotionally invested in something, it's better to just ignore it (unless you have something to actually add instead of just SL&AMing people.. ;)
