Is there a minimum amount allowed in Small claims Court? What is the monetary value of a Summit ring?

The gyms do not pay for these rings. They are gifted by Varsity to the participants. There is probably more of an emotional value attached to the ring than the cost of the ring itself. I have every intention of paying her what I owe, but to hold the ring from a child is just ridiculous.

Wishing my old gym would pay me what they owe me for privates I paid for but never received for my CP. :)

I don't think Summit rings even have a retail price, but as an estimate, UCA rings were $200 this past season. And as far as value--no precious metals are to be found. Just genuine metal.

When you started the thread, you said there was a dispute and that you didn't owe any $. Now you say you do. If a Summit ring wasn't involved, would you have paid the gym what you still owed after you left? As unfair as this seems to your child, if the gym has tried to collect the $ from you previously without success, then you owing the $ to the gym is what is unfair to your child, because that's what seems to holding up her getting the ring.

There is an amount but there is a dispute regarding the amount. I don't walk away from my obligations, however I'm not going to pay more than I owe just to get this person to release a ring that she should get regardless.

How come the rings get mailed to the gym? Is it because it's easier for them? What if Suzie leaves gym A for gym B and gym A refuses to give Suzie her ring because she now cheers at gym B? Can Suzie do anything to get her ring?
It would be nice if Athletes could contact comps letting them know that they don't cheer for the same gym any longer.

The rings are shipped to the gym that won the competition all together. So yes, gym owners can pretty much do whatever. In this case, yes we did leave for another gym and yes, I believe gym A was not happy about it despite the fact that we left quietly.

Oh I know the rings get shipped to the gyms that won the comp but I was wondering how come comps ship it to them and not the athletes? It's not like they don't have the resources, if they have the resources to find out where every cheer family attending Stay to play events will be staying at, surely they can figure a way to get athletes their rings that no longer cheer at the same gym. Have you tried to contact someone at Summit?

And fully agreed, you shouldn't. But if the gym is saying you owe $ and you are claiming you owe less (and obviously their plan is not to take you to collections but to hold your cp's ring over your head) then you need to get all your ducks in a row to prove you do not owe them what they say you do and get a third party in there as a mediator. Is it $hitty and vindictive to do this to your cp to get to you? Absolutely. Then again, we are only hearing your side of the story, and the truth most likely lies somewhere between what you are telling us and what the gym is claiming.

I can think of a few reasons off of the top of my head. First of all, the cost to individually ship the rings would be very high. Bundling them into 1 package and paying 1 fee is much more cost effective. Second, what do you do about athletes who move between gym registration and ring shipment? It's easy to say just call and change your address, but logistically that's a headache for all involved. Third, can you imagine the nightmare of dealing with multiple lost shipment claims? I only throw that in because my mail delivery stinks and I have to follow up often with companies who use the post office for shipment.
