Me too. Although I think it's not about what you think it's about. It'll be interesting to see. I'll hold off my comments on it until I actually see it. (Side note - I LOL at anyone that thinks any form of mainstream media - specifically the Fox news she mentions - is remotely demonstrative of what white people think)
I disagree with this more than I've ever disagreed with anything I've read on Fierce Board.
Obviously this is more often true for minorities (that it does affect their success I mean). But if you think white people can't experience racism... Or have it affect their success or keep them from getting a job... I have some reality for you up here in Chicago (not the southern US, so it's different. Yes, really.)
I don't know what to say to this that won't get me banned, so I'm just quoting it to say wow. The amount of time it would take me to type out why this is wrong is not even imaginable. I'm curious if you would be willing to elaborate on this though. (in your own words, not a quote)
I HAVE to see this! When is it coming out? (BTW I'm crazy excited that Tyler James Williams is in this... I loved Everybody Hates Chris.)
@Pip22 just like Tyler Perry movies.
If there was ever a time where my closet love for musical theater was needed, its now. :cheering:
I made sure to get the version with lyrics so everyone could sing along.
My favorite musical. :D Muppets rule!
I was NOT going to post on this thread, BUT yes they can. ANYONE can be racist. It doesn't have to be a Black/White thing. There are more races in this world than that. I'm sorry, but I feel that is a naive comment.
I was more referring to her supposed "racism" that was really just rudeness. White people make claims on the regular about "racism" that isn't racism. Sure, white people can experience racism... but 90% of the time what people think is racism, really isn't, and that's what I meant.Me too. Although I think it's not about what you think it's about. I think that if you consider the definition of racism that she provided, then yes, her statement is right (which gives another level of meaning to the phrase, 'society is racist'). However, if we simply define racism as prejudice, then yes, ANYONE can be racist (which I believe).I was NOT going to post on this thread, BUT yes they can. ANYONE can be racist. I found this exact quote on a google search of "Black Racism".Racism is different from prejudice or discrimination. All humans can be prejudiced or practice discrimination based on personal preferences. All humans do not have the power to institutionalize their prejudicial attitudes into laws and structures that favor one race over the other. This is the heart of racism.

I also believe there is a huge difference between institutionalized racism and personal racism. To say that Black people can't be racist is naive. Is there a history of racism in this country, of course there is. Has it always been White people against Black people? Of course it hasn't. There have been plenty of races that have been on the receiving end in this country. Japanese in internment camps during WW2, essentially wiping out the entire Native population, basically every single immigrant group faced some form of racism at some point. I'm not minimizing any of it. All of it is a stain on our country. Every single one of those races are capable of racism.I think that if you consider the definition of racism that she provided, then yes, her statement is right (which gives another level of meaning to the phrase, 'society is racist').
