She is on f5 now, but it was when she was on one of the best Youth 5 teams ever (twisters Tinys). She handspringed into a double full landing on the front edge of the mat and fell head first onto a concrete floor. She was ok and so lucky but I still wonder why they change other rules like eliminate tumbling skills but still permit elevated stages without sufficient margins - a huge safety issue.
omg! I remember this, yes about 5 years ago. My daughter who's a senior now was in 7th grade. I almost died when I saw that girl go off the stage. so scary!!

urg this is like my worst fear ! like every time i compete on the Cheersport stage im so scared to tumble off it ! i have never seem someone tumble off and i dont want to thats so scary !!!!

I was US Finals in Virginia Beach a few years ago and one of the level 6 teams did one of those tosses where they throw the flyer to a different catching group. The flyer had a lot of momentum and the whole group catching her basically traveled off the mat and I think she may have fallen off the stage.

There used to be a comp held at Sea World - I am not sure if it is still held there or not. My daughter was on youth intermediate at the time - she was about 9. The stage is held at one of the outdoor venues. We were watching a team, and a guy tumbled off the front of the stage - he got right back up, and continued on - but it was frightening to see! The front of the stage had a couple of concrete steps leading down into a pit area...so I don't know how he didn't hurt himself.

Too theatrical!!! But I do feel like these uniforms are making a comeback!

Okay WOW I am just beyond in love with this routine! Being from Australia I have never really seen any cheer stuff from this era but I LOVE it!! The male flyers! The crazy pyramids! The dancing congo line pyramid! The partner stunting mascot! The man with a basketball on top of a pyramid! Ooh and some of THE sharpest motions I have ever seen :)

I laughed out loud watching that part!

On topic though, I am super paranoid about tumbling off the stage. I'm not doing anything crazy, but I tumble to the front in my teams routine and I feel like if I over rotate at all, I'll be diving face first into the crowd at competitions with stages. It puts a lot of added stress on me to be at competitions with stages. It's fun to be on a stage and everything, but I really don't think it's safe.
I agree with you. There should be a rule that states the amount of area that needs to be around raised stages. And it needs to be padded too! I dont wanna be tumbling into concrete!

One of my cheerleaders tumbling into a balcony warming up at a competition in Boston. It was at a hotel and the balcony overlooked the tumbling strip. I noticed the balcony and was about to tell them not to run to far as I see my cheerleading running down the strip to throw a layout. THEN ... smack completely upside down she smacks her feet on the balcony and crashes down. She ended up with a broken foot and we ended up replacing her with a boy and re-working the routine and going co-ed and winning ... They gave us an hour to regroup ... and re-do our warm-ups... Thinking back it was pretty funny and behind that balcony was a window balcony that was 3 stories up ... imagine if she went out the window... A really bad warm-up area.

This wasn't at a comp, but several years ago when I was still part of a hobby gym, we had rented the back warehouse of a music store as our practice facility. One of my athletes impaled her legs on the wall during a tumbling pass across the front. She forgot she had already done r/o 2 bhs and went for a third (not enough room for a 3rd from where she started). She tumbled off the mat and her legs hit the metal beams which had tiny little nails sticking out of it. She was so shocked (and stuck) that she just stayed in handstand until I scooped her off the wall. We went to the ER for some stitches and moved locations shortly after that.

i saw it happen at sea 2 sky a few years ago, i dont know what team but the girl tumbled right off the side of the stage. she didnt seem to get hurt though, she got right back up, ran back into the routine and made it to the next lib sequence just as her flyer was loading in. it was a very impressive recovery.
