Game Day is steadily growing each and every year! In previous years on day one at NCA & NDA College Nationals, the Game Day portion of each routine took place right before the traditional two minute and fifteen second music portion in Prelims. Each team was given 45 seconds to complete their Game Day segment.

At the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, cheer teams performed a cheer in the middle of their two minute and thirty second routine. The cheer portion of each routine accounted for 35 points of their total score.

NOW, Game Day will have its own category at both college championships! We can't wait to hear the inside details [coming soon] on the exciting new divisions!

Brya D'Abrosca, Oklahoma State University
"I'm so excited about the new Game Day division! I think it's such a cool new opportunity and I think it's going to be great!"

Thoughts?

This intrigues me (more college competition is always fun) and frustrates me (trophy generation continuing, varsity loves it). But I do hope that the elite teams participate in this so that obtaining this championship is equally as challenging as regular competition is.

Completely agree. I am scared it'll turn the way it has at NHSCC where teams go for an "easier" win.

IMO, this is a division that I could see non-competitive teams like Auburn, Florida and Texas will be interested to compete in. Thoughts?
They definitely could and should participate. All depends on how their Athletic Department Admin views it.
But Florida will still only be allowed chair levels so they probs won't score too well when everyone else is doing 2.5 high pyramids. I would hope that these teams up their game too so that this side of the competition could stay competitive.

Bringing back an old thread here, but my alma mater is competing in both competitions. I don't think I'd call them elite, but they did make finals in D1 All Girl last year.

I don't have the time or patience to go through the whole schedule, but now that nationals is upon is, it would be interesting to see who is competing in what.

I skimmed the PO for Game Day. Saw some new teams to the event and also some like your alma mater that have been consistent on the competition side previously and now do both.

I am putting my money on Ole Miss (now coached by Ryan Martin) to win Game Day Coed. And Minnesota to win AG. Blind predictions, haven't seen any teams' game day stuff yet.

@Ashley does UMASS have two teams or did they switch to Game Day?

ETA: It's my understanding that the same team can't compete in any other division except for Game Day (at least at NCA).

I wasn’t aware of them having two teams, but I know there are more than 30 girls, so it’s possible they split in two.

For UCA, can you compete gameday and another division or do you have to choose? (Ex: Can Ohio State compete in both Game Day and their usual division?)

Just going off of the schedule, but it seems like you can do both. Ole Miss has both AG and Coed doing game day and their usual divisions.
While they probably have the talent pool to have make up 4 different teams if “crossing over” wasn’t allowed, but that would be a heck of a lot of cheerleaders to bring and seems unlikely.

I remember her! She used to cheer at Paul Laurence Dunbar, Kentucky and Alabama. She now goes by Ryan O'Connor now.
