Well after the fiasco of my kiddo not being allowed to try out for a world team and choosing to leave her gym, she is on a world team now at another gym. She was broken hearted and I was sad for her. She had stated that she knows what a sacrifice it is for us to spend so much money on her with only one income in the house and said if she could not try out for a worlds team then she didn't want us to keep sacrificing for her to not even have a chance to go to worlds when that has been her end goal for years. She always wanted to cheer at a specific location and be coached by a specific coach but since she was told she would never be allowed to go to that location as long as she cheered at her old gym, she decided to quit all together. I just couldn't imagine her not cheering and not having a chance to go to worlds. She's been cheering for 9 or 10 years and has 3 years left in high school, so 3 years left to go to worlds. So I convinced her to go to another gym which is a bit farther away from us but not so far that it would deter me from trying to make her dreams come true. She went to try out and was very excited to be placed on one of the two worlds teams at this gym. She is a happy girl now and momma is happy too. Now if we can just squeeze one more cheer year out of our budget, our car, and my old bones driving her to practices, it will be worth it to see her have a chance at her dream finally. Blessed to have scholarship funds to help pay costs though. That helps a lot! ;)
As a former coach, I can’t even imagine telling a child that. Especially a child that has the necessary skills for the team. Unfortunately, coaches seem to not understand that what they say and how they treat their athletes will stick with those kids for a LONG time. I am so sorry for your daughter, but it sounds as though the gym gym is a better fit for her and I am so glad she will be able to live out her dreams there! Do you mind if I ask what happened?
