All-Star 2013 Pet Peeves

Coaches that dress like hookers at competitions.... This is a cheer competition not a strip club. Put your boobs away. Sorry not sorry...

There's one coach, from a fairly well-known gym, that I always see at our local competitions wearing over the knee, leather stiletto boots ( a la Pretty Woman) with very short skirts. I'd be kind of embarrased if she represented our gym.

i really dont know why this is a pet peeve but i HATE when teams dont have a clear, defined standing full section.. for some reason it really bothers me and i feel when its in with the jumps they get lost and its hard to tell how many people are actually fulling.. nothing better than seeing 2 or 3 rows of standing fulls

I oddly seem to have a lot of pet peeves about SE's routine, but its only because their my #1 favorite team and I care about their success lol.. I am a coach myself so I have a nit picky eye - sometimes it gets me into trouble lol

My huge pet peeve is bad sportsmanship. I just believe that no matter what, you need to cheer on and hope your competition hits and does well. Because you want to win knowing everyone did their best.

coaches are NOT coaching the entire time at a comp. there is down time in between teams and awards. it's nice to have a place to get away and also connect with coaches from other programs. You obviously are not understanding this. coaches are not allowed to socialize?? seriously??

If you're at an event for 12+ hours it's nice to have a spot to chill for a little and get away from psycho parents, loud music, eat in peace and get to know other programs. Most coaches are not in the coaches room for the entire day.. more like an hour total out of the 12+ hour day. On any other job, you'd be allowed multiple breaks so what is different about a competition?

I can see where you are coming from but at the same time I guess I liked being with the girls I coached and watching the competition. I'm not saying they're not allowed to socialize but I just don't see a need for a coaches room I guess. Coaches can socialize elsewhere without locking themselves in a room, eating snacks and drinking drinks provided for them. I believe there should be a room for athletes too with the same perks. But hey, opinions are allowed to vary, it's the beauty of our country!

I am on my feet all day at even the smallest competitions. I don't expect a coaches room but having one is really nice. Especially at the larger competitions where I might actually have a break. It's nice to have a quiet place to recharge for the next team or look over scores or just grab a snack. I am not ashamed to need those things because it makes me better and more alert for my athletes throughout the day.

-routines ending in a pyramid. Every time I see this it just makes me feel like the routines not finished. I love more then anything watching a team hit their dance hard when they know they hit a solid routine.

-coaches that have some less then flattering pictures of them in college in hardly any clothes on their Facebook page. Seriously either take them down, remove the tag or block it so your athletes and parents can't see it.

I've mentioned it before, but I have come to totally hate iPads at competitions. The last one we were at, I literally counted 17 people standing up front in the VIP area with their iPads in the air. Did it ever occur to you that you are blocking the view of everyone behind you? This particular team, literally all I could see was the stunts in the air. I have no idea what else they did.

When the top, well-known contenders in a division fall over the place because their routine/stunt is too hard for them. We get that you want to win Worlds but there's no point in performing all these amazingly hard skills if you can't hit.

I can understand what you are saying but I think you are missing the main point of what we have all said: Coaches are working. On any other job you would get a break to eat, drink, chat with coworkers, and recharge to get back on the job.

They are not only blocking the view - i don´t even get it. There are small cameras making videos with much higher quality you can put on your Ipad to show everyone.

And this is another pet peeve, not 2013, but from the first competition i went to, but still annoying:
Please, parents, fans, everyone: Can you wait till the team on the mat is finished with their routine to go and get you another beer, hot dog or go to the rest room? It´s 2:30, come on - i get that 3 year olds CAN`T wait, but aduldts? :mad:

When level five teams do a synchronized running full sections, and four of the closest to the floor throw doubles when everyone fulls. I just think it makes it look so sloppy.

Yeah I agree that it is a job and yes they should get breaks but I guess I just always saw it getting abused and I just decided I would never be the coach locked into the coaches room.

Every coaches room I've seen has never really been 'locked in' a couple weekends ago at Athletic you could see right in! I'll tell you for a fact that that weekend I barely ate more than a couple pieces of candy from athletes for roughly 11 or 12 hours. I was in the coaches room for roughly 15 minutes to sit and actually discuss scores without a crowd of youth parents breathing down our necks. You know, those parents who will find you no matter where you go in a convention center? :mad: (Sorry about the minor rant towards the end haha)
