It's just kind of a no brainer to me...like can you wear a bikini to school? No, so why can you do it with a school activity? It's just ridiculously unnecessary for a carwash.

Unnecessary? Sure. But definitely not uncommon. Most school carwashes are held in the parking lot of a local business during the summer. It isn't completely ridiculous to think that high school girls would want to wear bikinis (or bikini tops and shorts) while they're working in the heat. Personally, I think it is kind of inappropriate, but I definitely don't think it is something to fire a coach over, unless such things are expressly prohibited by the school or if the coach *required* the cheerleaders to wear bikinis (I'd definitely have a problem with that.)

...no... If girl scouts were having a car wash it wouldn't be acceptable. If the band had a car wash it wouldnt be acceptable...if a basketball team had a carwash it wouldnt be acceptable. It has nothing to do with cheerleading. If a parent wants to be upset (mind you this is only 1 thing the mother was upset about) about her 14/15 yr old child being asked to put on a bikini and wash cars for strangers then she has every right. They are representing their school and most importantly they are children. I could care less about "teens" wearing bathing suits...as I've been wearing them since I was born...its the fact that they had to put them on to wash cars....now if they are washing cars on the beach or at a waterpark for other bathing suit clad individuals....
I honestly think that the article made it sound so much more risque than it really is. It's a bathing suit and I see girls wearing them everywhere. Maybe I'm just not as conservative as most of you here.

im guessing none of the parents were aware their daughters were wearing bikins there, all of the girls snuck outta of the house and the parents found out through the grapevine because no parent would allow that........................................

The article linked above said "Once the mat issue had been resolved, Jacobse complained about expensive cheer uniforms, bikini carwash fundraisers, too many tryouts, mandatory practices and more." Nothing in that sentence says that the coach required or even asked that the cheerleaders wear bikinis to wash cars. Maybe it is just me, but there's a big difference between allowing cheerleaders to wear bikinis and requiring them to do so.

I'm sure they weren't washing cars in 'Girls Gone Wild' style. BUT, bikini underneath cheer t-shirt and shorts should've been REQUIRED by coach. But then again, she was almost as young as they were :) Teenagers don't always see things in the most appropriate light :)

My issue is that they shouldn't have been allowed. The other complaints the mother made were asinine at best, but allowing your high school cheerleaders to wash cars in bikinis is a poor decision.

I agree....I think age (not being conservative as someone else said....as I am far from conservative.) has more to do with where people stand on this issue.

I can't believe the school allowed them to just wear swim suits. The school I went to made a rule that shirts and a tank or tshirt had to be worn if they were representing the school. The soccer, basketball, track, and volleyball team also had car washes and were required to stay covered. You are representing the school so shouldn't you have clothing on that has the school name or in school colors? You aren't even allowed to have half tops in high school cheer anymore but they are having car washes in bikinis???

I'd hardly say "no parent" - i would allow it and I'm a very good mother, thank you. I'm just not what most would consider conservative. We also lived in a beach town for the last 18 years, and ALL the kids wear bikinis to wash cars...go to the grocery store...walk around...pretty much from June to September that's what the girls have on. Bikinis. Now given that this story came out of Florida I would assume it is much the same there - bikinis are quite the norm for girls to run around in, so a car wash would be no different. Every car wash my daughter has ever participated in - including the one for basketball - the girls were all in bikinis. So I think in many places it is perfectly acceptable.

If the mother had an issue then she could have mandated that HER DAUGHTER not wear a bikini - and if the coach forced her to then that would be a completely different issue. I just think this mom is crazy.

The mothers email said that the coach had..."allowed" the girls to stand in a construction zone and in a median in bikinis collecting money and promoting a bikini car wash.

I'm not a mother and I'm not conservative...but in that same token if I take my 6 yr old niece to practice and she wears spanx and a sports bra and I need to run into Target,(I took her to get ice cream once in a cheer outfit and the looks from old men made me want to vomit) you best believe she puts on a t shirt and shorts before we go into the store...not because I feel what she has on is "inappropriate" but rather because people like Sandusky, the men on To Catch a Predator, the man that molested and killed a 7 yr old in GA last weekend and dumped her body in a trash compacter are running rampant in society. My 16 yr old sister drives. If she goes from practice to a grocery store afterward she covers up. Now a pervert can snatch up a child in a sweatsuit just as quickly as they can take one in a bikini, but the first thing those freaks say when theyre caught is "oh well look what she had on I thought she wanted it"....they are viewing this type of dress as inviting and sexual. If you can avoid it...why not?

Hahahahaaa - no, didn't get the sarcasm. :D

I get that - I don't know - I'm just so used to it that I don't even notice. Why didn't the mom just pull her daughter from the team? Judging from the fact that the article said that many members of the squad had quit in defense of the coach...and there don't appear to be any other mothers siding with this mom, I'd be inclined to say she may have been exaggerating a little. She seems a little overzealous to say the least.
