Speaking of traffic... Recommendations for getting to San Diego from Anaheim? Leave early and use the 405, or be all touristy and try the PCH?Well, there's San Marcos, which is in the San Diego area, and Ventura, which is, well, in the Ventura area. lol Ventura gym is about a 2 hour drive from Anaheim, maybe faster if there's no traffic, which is rare.
What day of the week? I think you are likely best leaving @10am after morning commute settles down (if on a weekday) unless you are a super duper we love the really early mornings type family! Regardless, that section of freeway (southbound) isn't typically the traffic nightmare much of LA area can be. Of course all it takes is a little road work or an accident and all bets are off the table. We will be staying across the street from Disneyland (the trip is for the kids, after all)... So truly from Anaheim. Speaking of times to leave, how early do we need to get out to avoid the morning rush, or I guess how late we could leave, too?! Thank you guys so much!

And we should warn her.... Make sure to watch out for a man and a woman yanking their poor little pigtailed girl across the highway as you approach San Diego ;)Or a bird or a plane or something shiny ....
Tips for LA (I call it all LA - even OC  ):
Always know your route.
Always check traffic (before you leave and while you're driving - AM 640 in LA)
Know your alternate routes - just in case!
I can make it to my sisters house NE of SD in just under 2 hrs via the 5.
The 5 is your best option and most direct route. Unless there's an accident. Pay attention to the traffic before you leave. If there's a sigalert (MAJOR TRAFFIC JAM) on the 5 then take the 405.
Once the 405/5 merge you're pretty much stuck if there's an accident. Not really another option until you get into SD.
Traffic isn't that bad if you plan on it and allow for extra time. Then if you arrive early it's a pleasant surprise!
Have fun!

YES!!!!! Those signs are a MUST SEE! Have your camera ready. They are by the border stop. Yes you will have to go through Border Patrol (which is no where near the actual Mexico border) to get to SD.And we should warn her.... Make sure to watch out for a man and a woman yanking their poor little pigtailed girl across the highway as you approach San Diego ;)
