All-Star Cheer History

I can still remember back when my cp started cheering 10 years ago, there were only, NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE, and ADVANCED. Pee-Wees, Youth, Jr. Prep, Junior, Sr. Prep., and Senior! Wow, how times have changed

I wonder how many on this board actually remember when routines were 1:15 of music and there was a cheer with signs etc.

I never did all-star until I was in college, and didn't know a lot about it before that, but going to college and finding out that you didn't have to do a cheer in your routine was like a godsend. But then again, we were an NCA team, not UCA.

Probably less than 15 years...

Definitely less than 15 lol I'd say more like 5. Realistically, there are probably people here that don't know who someone like...say, Betar is and she was still a Star like...4 years ago. Outta sight, outta mind happens pretty quickly in cheer...

I was thinking the same time period.

have we really progressed all that much in cheer?! tumbling would have been harder on dead floor, yet now that we have spring floor we dont see as many amazing and unique tumbling? As for the stunting i understand that safety elements and regulations have come in but seriously the stuff in the 80's cant really compete with some of the stunting we have today! the only progression i really see is with the uniforms, and dang thats a good thing!

Oh, the days of flying on your left leg & novice, intermediate, and advanced levels....the good ol' days.

Chris Muniz did the first standing double '03 (hard floor)
Matt Mcgrath did full-full and a half- to double in '03 (hard floor)
Ambrel did Arabian to full double in '04
Amanda White, Kati Smith- girls who were throwing one to doubles on hard floor in 2000
Shooting Stars threw more standing tumbling to double in 2005 than some Large Senior teams do in 2012

I'm sorry, but it is hard to give current teams all of this praise when we have seen it done, on hard floor, 8 years ago...

I'm gonna be the annoying stickler for detail for a sec, but by 2004, there were already spring floors at 98% of the important national and regional events. I'm most impressed with athletes who threw these ridiculous tumbling skills in 2003 and prior.
