From a gym owner view I think it would be difficult to determine what is best. If you aren’t having practices how can you afford to keep the doors open? It upset me that Varsity/USASF wasn’t making any decisions. And yes I understand the logistical nightmare.
Also with power comes responsibility. A decision needed to be made from the top so everyone else could decide.

I know for my Gym our tuition goes June through April. So March was paid already. And I hoping those who can will pay Aprils tuition. even if we don’t practice. I know I will. I know they are losing out on privates. I am hoping we will be back in the gym for tryouts in May....

Someone is getting the short end of the stick, the results will garner too much hew and cry and the winner is pretty much going to be whoever is allowed by state law to practice by that point.

(They have advantages over teams in states where full quarantine is happening.)

I'm with the unpopular opinion too...I feel like if those can practice and continue, it will put athletes and others at risk of the illness, but those that can't will then possibly have to unsafely get athletes back up to peak shape for a Summit.. so in either situation, there is no right answer. Virtually is hard because some are in areas where things must close but also in some areas families are choosing to keep their athletes home right now for their family's health. Again, no right answer.
 
Got an email from a local TNT & small cheer gym. They have decided that it’s their moral & social duty to close, then this:

We humbly request your support now, more than ever. Our staff and facility will be relying on your ongoing enrollment to keep food on the table and the doors open after the pandemic has subsided. While we won’t be offering instruction in the gym, we are currently in the planning phase of creating online content made by our coaches and staff for our active members to enjoy. We will have tutorials, instructional videos, flexibility sessions, and conditioning workouts to consume on a daily basis. It will be fun, and athletes will love watching their instructors online! We will need a little bit of time, though, so be on the lookout for these to arrive in your e-mail beginning next week.

After receiving communication from our own program and reading closely what @123jump4! @BlueCat and @catlady have said along with my own experience, I am of the opinion that many programs might need the carrot of a year end event to keep money flowing in and requests for refunds at a minimum. I hope they get very creative and absolutely refuse to allow programs to get together before a set date, say at this point early May after the 8 weeks are over. Obviously this is contingent on the prayer that the world is in a position to move forward with mass get togethers again!

I heard Jay Bilas (former Duke player and commentator for college basketball) say that after the NCAA basketball tournament was canceled the folks at ESPN already discussed some sort of televised 16 team playoff. I am sure the creative cheer minds can come up with some sort of abbreviated format, perhaps throwing rosters out the door at that point as long as the age requirements comply for the 2020 season.This allows for the realism that some athletes will be unavailable. Perhaps it is virtual. But some opportunity to give closure to the athletes and a reason to say the year is not over yet.

I know. I feel bad for the likes of Louisville, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, South Carolina, NC State, TVCC, Navarro College, SFA and other teams who were expected to compete in Daytona next month.
 
Please give your gyms the benefit of the doubt and keep supporting them during this time.

The last few days have been a little crazy, competitions cancelled because the recommendation was less than 500, so no comps but we could practice and we were proactive and adjusted our schedule some to decrease our most crowded times some. Then came the recommendation of under 50 which was manageable, we made a schedule that would keep us open for whoever wanted to come and stay well under that number. Then our schools closed so we closed and then the under 50 was projected for 8 weeks which would make us ok where the schools wouldn't be and now today its down to 10 which has effectively ended any hope of having any sense of normalcy at the gym. So now we're scrambling to pull together virtual options to still provide value while we hope enough stick with us through these uncertain times and we're just hoping to be able to reopen in some capacity in April.

We are all worried about the future and doing our best to adjust effectively.
 
Ohio has closed all colleges most for the year, all schools for at least 3 weeks and pretty much already planning for the rest of the year. Dine in at restaurants is no longer allowed, bars are also closed. They just put out saying all gyms, fitness centers, bowling alleys, recreational centers, water parks, movie theaters, etc all must close. So that pretty much forced all cheer gyms to close down here until at least the end of the month.

Surely your state government can find a better use for their 1.25 million alligators during this time. I mean, I wouldnt go to the beach if there were suddenly 1.25 million alligators there, ya know?

yes, but there are tons of elderly out and about too. Tons of families and middle aged still on vacation in Vegas. Not partying, but out. Every demographic is guilty.
