I feel this is intentional. Coaches don't want to lose by a ton of points and want to always feel like they have a chance, so there just isn't as high a spread in realistic scores.

Does anyone have any insight into LAG? I feel like those results came as a surprise to most people.

Random comment but I thought TGLC now had 3 uniforms, why were they in practice wear?

Hi y’all! Been since last year I was here. I’m at a loss of all of this and been a little while since I’ve paid attention to cheer. And no, didn’t read all the thread. So I’m quite confused...

    1. Is there a way to know that this wasn’t one of 96 full outs filmed and the one hit was sent?
    2. So many with not one deduction. Really? When not virtual, doesn’t really happen.
    3. Never so many ties ever.

I just don’t get how anyone can feel like NCA or any virtual competition can be truly fair.

I read on twitter that showmanship was pretty even across the board due to masks, so there is one less thing to spread the scores. No day two, and Varsity keeps the ranges tight so that everyone thinks they have a shot at winning. I'm not surprised at all... I'm actually more surprised at teams submitting routines WITH mistakes. For NCA I would have thought they would water it down before submitting it with clear deductions.

I too am surprised, actually pleasantly, with the one who submitted with mistakes. Were they following the rules and honest? Or couldn’t ever hit their routine no matter what and finally had to submit with errors? Though I have no doubt that some teams hit, but I don’t think I’ve ever have seen so many with no deductions at the same comp ever.

So again, when a team submits a video, how do they know it’s not the 100th full out in the weeks prior and they picked the one that hit?

Just not feeling these virtual competitions.

They don't know it. I would honestly predict that not one team at that entire competition did a one and done recording unless it was perfect that first time. There is no rule that they cannot record a million and pick the best one, they are really only limited by the number of practices and number of times that team can truly run a safe full out.

I'm not a huge fan normally, but honestly for NCA I think it's pretty good. I want to know where everyone stands with the very best routine and now I do. If I have a team in any of those divisions (especially worlds) I know exactly where I stand on my very best day versus their very best day. There are some teams that should be very concerned after seeing those NCA standings, let's be real.

You have a point, but to me, that’s not competition. That’s like a filter of someone’s face on Instagram.

But thank you for indulging me. I’m out!

Some of the members stated it was a team decision because it was really hot and humid that day and there’s no A/c in the gym.

If Worlds has to go virtual, things are going to get interesting y'all.

(Does Worlds have a tie break procedure? I know there was a kerfluffle re: Small Coed 6 ties in 2019.)

I will say one thing - our coach gives us two fullouts and that's it, she submits the better of the two (sort of like a Day 1/Day 2 floating score idea, but with one being worth 100%). With that being said, there's a gym on the other side of town that will record over the span of a week every single night and select the best that they've got. I see pros and cons to both, but so long as Worlds/Summit stay in-person, at the end of the day if you're going through a million full outs to get the 'perfect' one, you're going to find yourself in for a bit of a culture shock when it's one and done at Worlds. Our teams managed to squeak out (non-perfect) zero deduction routines with our two chances, but if other gyms are implementing similar policies I can see how they would feel submitting videos with falls/bobbles would make sense to prepare them for the end-of-season events.

I do agree with you, though, that it's kind of nice seeing where everybody stacks up with a hit-fest, as it has certainly given our team plenty to think about moving forward, and I'm sure others feel the same. All in all, not nearly as good as normal NCA, but I was pleasantly impressed with how it all was run (minus scores going out to coaches a full week before results were announced, that was....an interesting choice).

I'm guessing a lot more teams submitted one-and-done routines than we think. Just because a routine hits zero doesn't mean it's perfect, and I'm seeing plenty of mistakes. Many gyms seem to be running virtual competitions similar to how a normal competition would run--- they have all their teams come in at a scheduled time and hold an in-house competition of sorts. Some gyms have tried to mimic competition lighting and sometimes you can barely even see the routine. Gyms are trying to give their kids an experience that feels like the real thing (because who wants to just endlessly practice without competing?). And if you have many teams scheduled to compete, there likely wouldn't be time to run routines more than once or twice. And it would become unsafe to do a ton of fullouts.

Sure there were far fewer deductions here than a normal competition, but I enjoy seeing great teams at their best, or close to it. It felt like an even higher quality NCA than usual with so many teams hitting and not having anything tragic happen. I'm very glad this event happened instead of not having an NCA at all. Hopefully Worlds will be in person.

And even though it took many hours, I love how they announced the Awards slowly and spread out throughout the day in a live broadcast so that the winning teams could have their moment and shoutout from CheerUpdates and whatnot, as if it were a live competition. Some teams gathered at their gyms to watch Awards live, which must have felt more impactful than simply looking up the results online.

    One positive:

If you were wondering how you stacked up against your division if everyone hit zero - now you know!
