What?????? No more WFAS? You guys were good! We always enjoyed competing with you!
Wow, this shocks me! We competed against WFAS at several comps. I had no idea! I hope you have found a new gym home that you love!WFAS (Wake Forest All Stars) was part of a gymnastics program. They did rec teams first then went All-Stars about 11 years ago. Sadly our program disbanded this year under new management :(
Looking for a new program.
I think it was more like 1992, but I'm not positive. They were at least a couple of years old when we started in 1994.I'm guessing Cheer Station was 1994 or before because they won NCA (Sr prep) in 1995 - that's the earliest they appear on the NCA Wall of Famee
Oldest Gyms still in business
1988 - Greensboro All Stars, ASG Cougar Cheer1990 - Charlotte All Stars1991 - GymTyme All Stars1992 - Pro Cheer (GA)1994 - Cheer Athletics, Texas Lonestar, World Cup, Premier Athletics1995 - Memphis Elite, Spirit of Texas1996 - CJA, Twist and Shout1997 - Pro Spirit, Top Gun (?)1998 - ACXknown "old" gyms (16+ years), but don't know date
Cheer Station (Austin, TX)CEA
I want to say that Top Gun was earlier than that, but I could be wrong.
Also, I would have put BIG money against us going this long without someone figuring out when CEA opened. (When they first had teams.)
according to wikipedia...1994I once heard El Popa started CEA while she was in high school. So she was charging people to be on a team she was also on but coaching. Not sure if that is true or not but it's a great story. A little backwards math, if that was true, would put that around 93/94?

Cheer Station National Cheerleader Training Center was founded in 1990 by Ladd LeBus and Brad Page.

Sniffles. I hate that for those kids. I hope they were able to find a spot with another gym. Good luck with your new gym home. It amazes me just how quickly the momentum in a gym can shift.No. No more WFAS. After a very tumultuous year he doors are closed. And our worlds team who won a bid back in Dec. does not get to go to Worlds this year. All very sad and heartbreaking for parents and kids. Was with them for 6 years, but it was not like it used to be and we move on to bigger and better things. Thank you for the kind words
True. Kelly Smith was on her first team and they were know as the Panthers. They practiced in her parent's yard and then in their church basement. I believe they had one team to start of 15 kids. I think it was 94 and she was 15. This was the classic roll out the mats, go to every local activity in every gym and parking lot. We started in 97/98 at Pro Spirit Dazzlers in Lewisville NC which became Tanya Boyle's CSA after Ginny from CEA took over the gym from Teresa Newell who started the gym and who's husband helped me build my gym. We went with Pro Spirit to the first Cheersport in Atl, not Charlotte, I do believe, I think there were 70 teams in the same location, bottom left of WCC. It was our dream to go to NCA and win from the first. The first great cheerleader we saw was a kid from the "Bears" there from a Georgia team named Whitney and I have forgotten the last name, may have been Johnson. Hannah Correll was the first cheerlebrity we knew and was Maddie's role model from CAC. We met Kevin B. and Jamie P at that competition.
