All-Star Thoughts On Mini 3?

Someone mentioned Y5 upthread.

I forget who posted it, but I think one of the Y5s (maybe Twinkles) hevenas a minimum age for consideration (like you need to be cheer age 9?) @Pebbles49 ?
@oncecoolcoachnowmom, I can only speak from my observations and I say this, so I am not attacked. But in the time my daughter was on a Y5, all the athletes were 9-12 (11 still on 8/31st), which fit my daughter, who was born in early September. I recalled that the coaches worked hard to put together Y5 athletes, who were at least 9 and if they were younger, they may be placed on the Y3 team... I can only speak for the 2 years my daughter was on Y5, but things might be different now.

Tbh, I think the mini age athletes are simply placed on Y3 teams, which we have gazillion teams in that category and then they are utilized for their tumbling and flying skills, if they have those skills and the bases and backspots are lot bigger...

It would be just too hard to have competition! How many mini 3 teams, back in the day do you think there would have been? Also when did they stop having them?

like youth 4 and 5, junior 4 and 5 and senior 1 and 2 sometimes 4.2? There aren't many gyms with youth 3, 4, and 5 and senior 1 and 2 and 4.2 in my area :P

Exactly what area are you from!?! There are many, many completely legitimate Senior 1 and 2 teams all over. You will find some that are stacked with upper level athletes, but that's another story for another thread!

I was going to say senior 2?? I get senior 1, we don't have many of those here, but my gym goes to mostly small competitions and senior 2 almost always has at least 5 in their division and often times it's more like 9 or 10. Senior 4 and senior 5 here, on the other hand, are often divisions of 1-3 teams.

We see maybe like 2-3 senior 2 teams at each competition, we see like maybe 2 level 5 teams at like 2 of our competitions.

Our gym has an incredible mini 2 team- I thought they were quite possibly the best routine in the gym (and we have a few worlds teams). The kids were just so good! When they ring the bell for a new skill they post it up on social media- I see so many of the mini 2 kids ringing for punch fronts, tucks, layouts! Our Y2 and Y3 are the same- ringing for layouts and such- I keep wondering if we might not field a y4 next year! We also have several tiny teams- one of them easily rivals the super mini team...I could easily see this gym fielding a solid mini 3 if that existed. I think the future looks bright for them overall.

remember when Fame went Mini 5 for a competition and the judges freaked out? good old days.

We have some amazing mini kids at CEA that could pull off a level 3 routine. Most of them are on our y3 though, being based by older kids.

I know personally Droplet could have hung with level 3 tumbling wise at around 7 but she would have likely been too big to fly and I would not have wanted her to be responsible for basing level 3 and keeping a flyer safe at that age. I just don't think the mental maturity was there yet.

This is exactly my concern with mini3. I don't think in most cases a 6-8 year old is ready to base/ back at that level. The consequences of not paying attention to extended one leg stunts and kick single baskets could be catastrophic.

Montgomeryville is Eastern PA, just north of Philly. You have competition in your area.
I know only 1 gym around me that has 1 youth level 3 team. Theres only 1 gym around me with youth level 4.
