I was comparing level 5 cheer and gymnastics tuition from about 4 years ago, which for us was a $50/month difference. I was also commenting on the cost of acquiring skills, In cheer, the cost of acquiring skills seems to be additional, when in gymnastics, it is a regular part of the training. Clearly, neither sport is inexpensive!

If a kid is going to get stuck or blocked on something and need tons of privates, it's usually going to be one of those, but moreso the BHS.

I can totally see your side of it then. When a lot of us start talking about the "cost" of cheer, we are including the travel costs, which for a lot of us (especially level 5/worlds teams) pretty much doubles the cost of tuition/comp fees/uniforms, etc. This past season, I spent about $10k not including the $5 Dipping Dots/$5Diet Cokes/$10nuggets LOL...

Aack! Luckily, she's a long way from a level 5/world team!

If a kid is going to get stuck or blocked on something and need tons of privates, it's usually going to be one of those, but moreso the BHS.

My standing tuck was the most expensive for me [emoji15] I never took any privates for my full, but I did a couple clinics ($50 each, so $100 total) outside of my regular tumbling/open gyms. I accidentally got my bhs by myself so my mom lucked out there. My sister's bhs however was VERY expensive, but she had a mental block and never truly mastered the skill before giving up and switching to dance.

Took me 2 years to get a backhand spring and after that tucks came easy. Now I have a mental block on all tumbling so overall my back handspring is worth a lot of money

I also don't understand the cross overs being used all the time. Do you have a choice or do you have to be on 2 or more teams? How would you figure out the competition schedule when you have so many crossovers? She said she wanted to keep the cost down but if they are on 2 teams and going to different competitions doesn't that add to the cost or do you keep everyone going to the same competition but then that must be a logistical nightmare with so many people on so many different teams? Ugh I feel like my brain is going to explode

Most people think 2 teams = 2 different competition schedules. For us, Big Red is on 2 teams that travel to the same place. Last season there was only 1 comp that both teams did not travel to. So in reality, I am spending less money because I am getting 2 routines for my hotel, admission, etc. and I am only gone 1 weekend. While I know this is not how it works for all teams at CEA, I feel like CSP really tries to put crossovers on teams that will travel together to help parents. Last season, the only exception was 4.2 who went to Battle at The Capital and no one else went.

The crossovers do pose a problem for team moms and coaches. Many times I have pulled Red off the floor from one team, slapped a new uniform on and run her to warmup a for team 2. And frequently, she does miss awards for one of the 2 teams. Team moms do a great job of looking at the schedule to see potential problems and alerting coaches. The mom knows her team and can look for those specifically instead of looking overall like the coaches do.

I'm now imagining the price of my inconsistent standing tuck and... Yeah my mom doesn't need to add that up. It took so long and so many privates... I got my backhandspring in 6th grade, running tuck and multiples early 7th (so that's when I started working standing tucks) and didn't get my standing tuck until my senior year. And then it disappeared and has been off and on (mostly off) since the fall. Eek!

I don't even want to know how much my standing tuck costed. I had it consistent from like age 8ish (I started in gymnastics really really young) until 7th grade when I broke my ankle and I will go months with it consistent to months where my body just completely forgets how to do it. I really don't want to know how much my standing tuck is worth... don't even get me started on my full. My parents would probably die if they added that up.

YE has it's own uniform so she didn't have to buy that one. Her other 2 teams wore the black level 1-4 uniform so I'd guess she hasn't bought uniforms in 2 years. @megsmom can correct me if I'm wrong.

So level 5 all have different unis and 1-4 the same?

My own opinion she definitely does a good job about crossovers traveling to the same places.

BHS was definitely the most expensive followed by the tuck. Layout and full seemed to come more naturally. Hoping we can work some "extra money privates" into our schedule this summer LOL. She has kind of plateaued and should have some new goals.

This is super random but I have seen posts about people being all of the gems at FCA throughout the years. Can anyone answer how this works with their uniforms being different colors. If you do multiple teams in a year, or say your a different gem each year they have the same style uniform do you have to purchase every single uniform or is their a borrow/trading system to offset the costs?

I have no idea in regards to this specific program, but my guess is that from year to year, families will sell/buy their uniforms used for a cheaper cost. Maybe if youre lucky a friend will let you borrow.
