The event being discussed wasn't a sanctioned party. It wasn't put on by anyone. Just a bunch of kids hanging out. All the kids there drank on their own and wandered out to the pool/football field area and hung out there. Some continued to drink out there. A bit of a "make your own party" type situation. It is about smart management. Sanctioning a party that kids can use as a vehicle to drink is not the smartest thing. If the kids want to find a way on their own to go drink then so be it.
I don't care about stopping the kids individually, but making sure there is no sanctioned easy access event to allow it.

I personally think it should have been shut down before it reached that point. I headed out there around midnight and security guards were standing around the pool just watching. Hindsight is 20/20, and they probably had no idea how crazy it would get, but I would have though a HUGE conglomeration of overly drunk teens would have been dispersed as soon as they started getting too loud. It is a RESORT after all.
I agree. Especially now knowing that this WILL happen again next year. I'm sure of it. Even if the official Block Party is canceled kids are still going to congregate out there next year. Break it up and send them away from that area before it gets to that point. The main congregation points should have some extra security.

I am enjoying you tremendously this evening. I'm just going to follow you around here, shimmying, OK?
And I'm sure everyone is going to reply that gyms like CA and Rays can have zero tolerance policies because they're so awesome that no one would risk it, but some small gym couldn't afford to kick out the talented kids. I often wonder when people say stuff like this - does it ever occur to anyone that CA and Rays are the huge powerhouses they are BECAUSE they have zero tolerance for BS in their programs?
And to think so many people assume all sorority/fraternity people do is get sloppy drunk and not care. We actually know that there is a time and a place to get a little crazy, Disney is not one of them.@ztaprincess's name tells me she's a Zeta Tau Alpha and her risk management chair should be very proud of her ... Just the sorority girl in me :)
Oh this makes me laugh because just yesterday I saw something similar to this happen only the little girl really brought her daddy the beer. I was at the pool and there are always parents with their children up there drinking (while their small children swim, really smart). Well the dad was in the pool playing around and this little girl, who was probably 3 or 4 grabs her dad's beer and run towards the pool screaming "here daddy don't forget your beer". I had the the biggest awkward mixed with shocked cow look on my face. Why does a 3/4 year old know what a beer is?Your story reminded me: when our oldest was 2 1/2, DH and I were on the porch with her. We were talking about a commerical where a dog brings his master a beer from the refridgerator and hubby turns to our daughter and says "bring me a beer". Well, she immediately goes running back into the house and we are looking at each other wondering what she is doing when she comes running back out and hands him her big white teddy bear that was as big as she was. (This may be a case of the parents thinking this is ever so much cuter and more clever than anyone else does.:p)
Everyone thinks it is about 'stopping' all the kids from drinking. That will never happen, some will find ways. But you don't give them large public areas and easy access. You would be surprised how much that would cut it all down. That was how they stopped Freaknik in Atlanta. They couldn't stop people from coming and visiting and partying. But they did stop the ability to stop your cars on the highway and in the public streets (and that pretty much ended Freaknick in two years).
Two years of no easy public place and it will no longer be an issue.

On Sunday night where are all of these coaches while this is happening? Doesn't the USASF hold a Coaches Party? if they do then I think that needs to be canceled because those coaches need to be back at the resort with the athletes they are in charge of. If not then parents need to be appointed as chaperones while the coaches are away.
I'm newly 21 and I got carded everywhere I went down there. I've always known Disney was strict on IDs. My friend got lectured for buying 2 drinks at a drink stand in Downtown Disney in 2010 when I was standing near him. The drink was for someone else who wasn't there yet and she was afraid he was going to give it to me. She was DETERMINED that he was buying a drink for me since I was underage and said that if she saw him give it to me he would be escorted off the property. It was pretty excessive.
So I call BS on the bar not IDing people. The bar was closed when most of this went down anyway. Most of the kids had their own alcohol.
