All-Star Allstar Resort/block Party

I've been scanning the boards for the last few days before finishing up here and I have been really impressed with the discussion and insight of everyone. As my last post here I want to be certain that everyone knows that this is not my cheerlebrity, she was with us virtually the whole weekend when not competing and did not go to any block party or do any "crazy stuff". Not her style, and I know Andrew did not say or imply that she did, just want to be certain everyone is clear on that point. Thanks for all the support and even the criticism, in the end it was all beneficial. Best of wishes to all.

I can vouch for that...as we just happened to be staying next door to my dear friends (as in literally the room next door) the Gardner's. I remember seeing Maddie at the pool w/her family on Sunday, leaving w/them (perhaps to get something to eat) and then leaving again, which I'm assuming was to attend the USASF scholarship thing. I also believe she stayed the night w/them that night.

*I didn't want to bug you guys at the pool bc it looked like y'all were having some well deserved family time.

There was security at the, idk what you should call it, the "cheerleaders gone mad party at sports" (lol) and I watched them do NOTHING to stop the madness. The only thing they did was told this kid to get off of the garbage can that he climbed up, and start dancing on. Those security, "rent-a-cop" guards, shouldve known that most of those kids that were drinking, were not of age. I also over heard some guy who works at hollywood studios, (where the block party was supposed to be) got hit by some kid, and that they were looking for him. I would assume thats what the helicopters were for. Everyone got a kick out of it lol (the helicopter that is)

I think if you have a paid bid you have to stay on Disney property, but it doesn't have to be the all star resort it can be one of the other hotels. I want to say that changed to this recently though, can someone correct me if I am wrong?

I dont think this is true. I think orange/TG stayed off property with their All Star Challenge bids. kingston can confirm. I could have been that they just stayed at another resort on property but im thinking it was not at disney

Why do they still do it ???? do theey honestly make that much money off of it to still do it ? USASF is so concerned about keeping the kids safe while they compete why not AFTER they compete why have a block party where they will be drinking and being crazy ? I am sure some people really love going but if it is that unsafe I think they should just cancel it?

I would imagine the idea is that it gets kids out of the hotel and into the park where they're less likely to be drinking/partying. If they stayed on-site, most of the kids would probably be cramming into hotel rooms swigging from plastic bottles of vodka. Even the kids that were (rightfully) too afraid to drink on the football field at All-Star sports.

Which is basically what NCA College Nationals in Daytona turns into on Friday night after competition - except at least those kids are all over 18, even if not legally old enough to drink.

Remember that most of the craziness this year was at the hotel, not the parks, where they did remove the dance to try and eliminate some of the problems. Disney did check bags, but clearly not well enough and they can't control what kind of drinking happens behind the locked doors of a hotel room.

I wanted to add too, that I believe USASF actually did away with the DJ last year. But the problem with the block party is that nothing is open except for the 2 or 3 rides, so you end up waiting in line for an hour and a half if all or most of the cheerleaders go. People on my (open) team ended up going at 8 or so and left at 10:30 to go to Magic Kingdom (open until 2 that night) once the lines started getting really long. I was at Downtown Disney having a (legal) drink with a few of my teammates and didn't see either event take place.

So instead it is that you stay where the EP pays to stay and most EPs will place you at a Disney resort.

I know that a lot of parents were buying the kids the booze, im not a parent but I dont see how this is OK! If any of our kids are drinking at a competition they are removed from the program immediatly no questions. This is a BIG no no with us, and for those who say there is no controlling it your totally wrong. The coaches need to show good morals and values inside the gym so the kids can learn from them. How you act in the gym will reflect on your actions outside the gym.

That is exactly what we did. I am blessed with a level headed 14 year old who did not want to go (and would not have been allowed to if she did) to the block party because of all the things that have happened and seem to continue to do so in some form or another. Several of us went and had a great time, both young and old.

I also saw lots of other athletes from many different gyms as well as ours doing the same thing. Just having a good time at the park and enjoying themselves, no trouble necessary. There are a lot more good kids out there than the bad, sadly the bad ones are what gets remembered.
And is that a Shi Tzu in your picture? We have one with those colors :)

I honestly never knew the parks were open, no one I asked knew either, that is so much better than the block party, get rid of it.

I think it was just Magic Kingdom. I don't know if they're always open until 2AM on Sunday or if it was just a coincidence - but definitely something worth remembering for next year.
