All-Star Impact Of Building Being 40% Of Score

While to some extent I do agree about building being worth more because it IS what separates us from being just high-flying gymnastics, I also prefer to be well-rounded. Granted, only two things make up building (and they're big parts), but at least 3 things make up tumbling, correct? Standing, running, and jumps? I suppose it makes sense in that regard, with pyramids and stunts being in building and worth 20% each and all of the tumbling things worth 10% total. Some part of it irks me, but mathematically it makes sense like that.

I don't know if I'm having an opinion or just typing out my thoughts.. :D

Standing is to Running as Pyramids is to Stunting.

Jumps and baskets share one main thing, they are execution skills. The timing of them done together in unison is where their difficulty comes in.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Our gym has decided to compete Varsity events this year which is a switch for us from more IEP events. I can see where this is advantageous for some teams. Let's take a Tiny 1 team. So maybe yo had a lot of new kids this year, some that came in with nothing at all. They're strong enough to do all the level one stunts flawlessly, the hardest ones you can do. But some of them just don't have the tumbling. Now they stand a chance against a team that has full team tumbling, but is doing super basic stunts. This happened a lot to my kids last year. We continuously lost to teams with just a few more tumblers and crappy stunts.

But, on the other hand, I can see the point that if we had been winning without the bridge kick overs, the kids wouldn't have been as motivated to get the skill, until it came time that they wanted to move up a level. Eventually they will have to get new skills. And tumbling is still important, just not as important. I can kind of see the reasoning given that stunting is a team effort (which might make it a little harder) where as tumbling is more of the individual part of the routine. At my gym, while tumbling is important (we offer tumble classes 4 nights a week) we really try to max out the difficulty on stunts. So this score sheet works for us (which I guess is why we're going Varsity)

Last year you wouldnt have lost to crappy stunts at Varsity events, if that makes sense. It is a balance between difficulty and execution.

This will be a positive for my gym, we have traditionally been known for our stunts but this just doesn't add up to me. I just want to know why? They did it for the INT divisions so that other country's that can't tumble would have a chance (not that I agreed with it there either). Do U.S. teams really need that kind of assistance? If your gym can't teach tumbling, chances are your gonna struggle teaching stunts as well. Why can't tumbling and stunts be equal? I just don't get it?

That's the main reason we chose varsity to account for difficulty which a lot of the IEP scores didn't do

Hence a reason for a universal scoresheet.

A universal scoresheet means more cheerleading. More people competing in cheerleading is good for EVERYONE.

I always have been for a universal scoresheet, BUT, it seems that the powers that will have control of the construction of the Universal Score Sheet aren't looking to make it an equal and balanced system, in that case I DON'T want a Universal Score Sheet

In my original thought process, I forgot about baskets. Which would put it evenly at 3 and 3, so I believe they should be equal. :D I would like to know their reasoning for making stunts worth more. I am not familiar enough with their scoresheet to comment on details, but is this sheet one in which they count passes to reach majority and not individuals doing each pass (ie one person could tumble back and forth 20 times on a small team and it's majority)..

maybe my gym is alone on this, but our tumbling is much stronger than our stunts.

So yes I'm for equality, even for the dutch

Ahh the Dutch... I just hate them so much!

I don't have too much to contribute, but I like the open divisions having the lowered tumbling weighting, though having those divisions without the disparity would be nice as an option. But for the teams/gyms that have stronger stunting? 4.2. And I would enjoy a 2.4 for those with strong tumbling (we have had a lot of gymnasts who would've suited this imaginary level of mine nicely!).

I think it should be weighted more evenly throughout the components. I also think that gyms are going to make extra stunt classes mandatory for some teams (some gyms have mandatory tumbling classes for certain level teams). My CP has been in "flight school" consistently for the past year and can do some amazing things in the air - while being based by kids from the senior team. However when she is in her regular practice with her youth bases it is like she is starting from zero all over again. Perhaps this move will inspire gyms to place more emphasis on the skill required to base and not just the skill required to fly as both are critically important skills that must be taught.

I don't really tumble. Never had the chance to learn it as it is just not as enforced here in Germany. Having a springfloor is really, really rare for a cheerleading team. Opposed to that there is a vast majority of teams that doesn't even have proper mats to train on. Actually, I used to hate stunting on mats, before i got used to it at my current team.

So I'm biased here.

For me personally, I'm a strong stunter (base) and I love it. It is what makes cheerleading cheerleading.
Honestly the long tumbling sections in routines bore me, especially when it's just cross tumbling and cross tumbling and some more cross tumbling. I don't mean any disrespect. I'm currently trying to learn a standing backtuck and I hav deep respect for everyonme who can even throw a running backhandspring/tuck!
But to me a whole sequence of just tumbling will never be really what I think cheerleading is.

Add tumbling to stunts, choreograph it into the routine so there are still other eye catchers. That would be perfect for me, also as a spectator.

So I'm actually all for these 40%. ;)
