Okay...*Deep breath* I have decided I am not cheering in college next year...it took a toll on me phyiscially, emotionally and academically. I have been cheering since I was 5 and never taken a year off until now. I am honestly terrified for a year without cheer since it basically has been my entire life-my license plate is "ICHEEER" haha I am known as the crazy- obsessed cheerleader pretty much everywhere I go. However, I am looking forward to getting involved more on campus and with my sorority as well as our wonderful philantrophy. I may even cheer again my junior/senior year..I am going to miss it so much (I already do). I honestly think this is the best decision for me though..it was a long season full of stress and injuries :( I've never sat in the stands at any college or high school football game or basketball game so that will be a new experience too. I am trying to look at all the positives that I possibly can, but regardless this was the hardest decision of my life so far.
Good for you, ALittleBitTwisted! It's a tough decision, but often the best decision. My college-aged daughter hasn't cheered in two years after nine years of cheer, the last on three teams. She really misses competing, but loves having time to do other things, especially at the last minute, without having to worry with practice or spending weekends at competitions. She just told me she hasn't had physical pain in a long time and how nice it was not hurting. Cheer does take its toll and sometimes your body and soul need a break. Good luck and enjoy all the things you mentioned!!
That is wonderful to hear about your daughter! Besides just missing cheer, I am also a little concerned with staying in shape. I used to run track back my early high school years so I may give that a shot...I just don't think I am up to par to run at a collegiate level. Did your daughter take up any new sports etc. since she left cheerleading? I am taking a Jazz course in the fall next year so hopefully that will help a little bit! I'm just worried because throughout my entire life cheer was pretty much my luxury of just being physically fit and I've never worried about my weight before or anything..just staying in shape and being healthy is most important to me.
