All-Star The Wire Article On Cheerlebrities

The amount that people know about them is scary. Like yeah okay they have skills, admire them for that, but why stuff like "I want a relationship like yours"? They know nothing about their relationships other than the pictures they post, which is why people are SO SURPRISED when they break up. Most relationships look super strong on Instagram, because nobody posts if they're in a fight with their bf.
not to mention people are now slut-shaming cheerlebrities because "omg they've only been dating for X weeks and he bought her this Christmas present". Like you don't know how long they've been together, you only know when the first picture of them was posted. Not to mention, it doesn't affect you so if you don't like it keep scrolling or unfollow?
People are annoying.
Riiiight it's so weird. When I cheered I looked up Whitney Love videos on the Youtube.... I did NOT look into who she was dating, what clothing she wears, what gifts she received... Like I just wanted to tumble like her hahaha I don't know what drives these fans to such extremes.

What I don't understand is this woman's fixation on cheerlebrities. The first article, ok fine. She's attempting to look into the effects fame has on these otherwise normal teenagers. Second article, cool. Follow up piece. Third article, this is getting weird. There's not even a purpose behind these anymore.

Is she trying to become the Perez Hilton of the cheer world…? Because that's what I thought when reading the newest article.

It must be so cool to be able to spend your day going around peoples' IG or twitter accounts, and then make a living of it... And the fact that she had to make a correction shows how focused and dedicated she was when writing her article...

75% of these articles are just summaries of what people have posted, with screenshots, that could fit into a five-line recap. I wouldn't mind if she actually developped the subject of the impact of social media in a wider point of view instead of keeping her article focused of three/four people. It could have been interesting to actually go further into IG "magnifying" the usual high school drama. Instead she chose the easy way and did a poorly researched article just to tell about drama and not even bothering to look deeper into it...

Ugh hate me but I find it hard to feel sorry for these "cheerlebs", This article if it can be called that is a mess but she's feeding a lot of people what they want.

If it wasn't for the masses of fans, commenting about how "perfect" and pretty and horrible Cami may or may not be for possibly, maybe, dating Matt, she wouldn't have a story. Don't shoot the messenger, y'all. She's just writing based on an outsider's POV.
Furthermore, just because we may know that Cami is wearing SOT practicewear doesn't mean that she knows. That's an unrealistic expectation. Seriously.
We know the details because we've been around this for a long time. You can't really expect someone who's just ventured into our world to know gym colors or uni designs or coaches. I could use terms with cheer people - F5Jason, dorito, jank, Susie's Mom, Teal, The Queens, Apple - but non-cheer people would have no clue.
And I didn't view this particular article as a TMZ-type thing. Again, it was "Holy bejesus. These cheer people are freaking out about cheerlebs breaking up." I think she was trying to show the connection between actors/singers and those types of celebrities and cheerlebrities. I truly believe she's trying to get it, but based on the fact that the cheerlebs are minors, and are becoming quite popular with the real world, even though they're part of a relatively small community of people, it's new and kinda weird.

I'm honestly amazed at how much posting of selfies these kids do on IG and Twitter. Talk about self-promotion. And I don't just mean these particular three kids, I mean a lot of the "cheerlebs." Just stop, please.

It seems to me it's only natural in the teen world for ppl to obsess over a couple's relationship when it's out there for everyone to see and fawn over. These are kids - and we know they don't think rationally like adults do (well, most adults) ;)

No, she doesn't HAVE to know who is on what team/gym. To be honest, that specific info wasn't really relevant to the article, so why tell it at all if you don't even verify it ?

But I actually think the article could have been interesting if it had been done right. I would have appreciated to see a list a little effort from the author. Seriously, she mostly just lists tweets, comments, pictures by cheerlebrities, followers (fans or not, I like the diversity though), like in the other articles. Then she states facts that she did not care to check (yet the info is pretty easy to find, she's been getting her drama info from their personal accounts, all she had to do was check their bio). And, at the end, she finally spares a couple sentences to raise a potentially interesting point. I was frustrated by that article, because it could have been a lot better, and it turned out to be a huge waist of time.

It's not just cheerlebs that do the selfies... maybe they're the ones that perhaps greatly influenced the trend of taking the
cheer practice related ones but there are selfies all over my fb and twitter (I don't have insta) from cheer kids and everyeone else, including adults. It's a pop culture trend that is part of social media.

Y'all act like these articles are in Time magazine or People or National Georaphic or something - or quite frankly even ESPN. It's The Wire. It is not that serious. It's not real journalism. It's some girl mocking cheerlebrity-ism in what is basically a glorified blog.

The way people are reacting about her lack of "fact" checking is why she's mocking it. The fact that the comments are things like "OMG, like you don't even know which team she's on! She's on wildcats, not panthers!" is kind of the point. Am I the only person who sees how ridiculous that sounds to someone outside of cheer??? No one outside of cheer could tell those 2 teams apart, let alone care to.

One week everyone is freaking out on her for not including their skills in the article, but now that she's included the skills everyone is freaking out because she doesn't know purple is SOT not CA.

The reactions are making her look right not wrong.

And again... It's thewire.com. I think you're expecting an awful lot.

As an outsider I don't expect her to know the different between a panther and a wildcat, but as a writer I think she should have done a better job knowing her facts. Like she had to go to Cami's Instagram to take that picture and in her bio it says "spirit of Texas". Maybe she doesn't know what SOT is a first but a simple google search will clear that up real quick. Idk, I guess if I was a writer I'd triple check my facts before publishing because I wouldn't want any stupid mistakes to make me look like less of a writer.
