I'm slightly appalled by both sides of this situation. Cali---those emails....Oy Vey. However, for someone's Dad to come on here, and almost slander other athletes on the team, and bash them for not being as good as his son...it's tacky and rude. And what is also tacky, is talking about making tshirts and hoodies. If this situation is so hurtful for your family, you wouldn't be trying to capitalize on it.

THIS! I get it. You perceive that someone went after your child. I'm sorry. I can only imagine the wrath and fire that would come from me were I in your position - But you aren't making any headway with me with angry snarky unsupported insinuations about other kids on the team or your line of clothing (#teamdylan) to support your kid's side.
Everything that I have seen does not cast a romantic-mood-lit-glow on Cali's program or on its athletes. I am a part of this gym and this culture and i KNOW - it's not all rainbows and unicorns. One thing we should all be able to agree on, though, is that these are athletes in a program who have spent far too long beneath a microscope, have been idolized far too much, and have been stripped of privacy and their own selves. At Palm Springs last year, my daughter went to lunch with Gabi, Robert, and Madi and was thoroughly overwhelmed by the cameras and the attention. They were under constant scrutiny, either by a camera or a fan asking for a picture or an autograph or a hug. It is CONSTANT. It is overwhelming. It is LIFECHANGING. This year, for some reason, it is DIFFERENT. The attention has shifted from funny skits and lighthearted jokes from these hardworking athletes and coaches, and everyone seems so much more stressed. Have you thought about how hard it must be for the ADULTS involved here, too? In the last three years, this program has experienced amazing and unprecedented growth. Their success was carefully cultivated, but the growth has been a blessing they couldn't have anticipated.
Eddie and Orby are people. They just bought a house together. They are thinking of adopting a child, They've been encouraged to pursue other opportunities to promote themselves and their brand, and to build on the image and brand that the first two seasons of "Cheerleaders" provided. And it worked. They launched a line of cheerwear, they started "Cheerhab", they ran camps, and they coached a successful World Championship level Cheer team. WOW. That's a lot. Can any of us say that we have never ever bit off more than we could chew and refreshed our view with hindsight? Can we say that we havent been fed up with something or felt let down or disappointed by it and reacted? Poorly? Especially if stressed out or frustrated at the way things are going, and that a previously successful situation isn't working out the same way? I can't say that. I get angry and swear if a batch of cookies doesn't turn out the second time.... Can't imagine if a world championship and the dreams of 20 kids was on the line. Can't imagine if I felt that kind of pressure.
It's terribly sad that there are kids caught in the middle of this. It's not right. But none of it is. None of us know what happened before that email was sent, what Eddies's real intention was, or what has been said to Dylan's family since. I haven't seen the episode, but I believe it didn't cast the best light. I have heard about the way it portrays "reality", and its unreliable at best. But to come out guns blazing over this and attack an entire program and group of kids with accusations of bullying, drug use, negligence, and conspiracy with USASF seems an over-reaction. My two cents, that's all.

This whole drama could have been avoided had the episode "Dylan's Story" not been released OR his departure portrayed in a better light. This isn't Season 1, it's Season 3. I do not feel empathy for the adults involved at Cali. This also isn't the first bit of drama coming out of this series. I would have imposed a social media policy for all athletes in the program.
If I am viewing this situation correctly, I believe the release of that episode appears to have pushed Dylan's dad over the edge. Did he react perfectly?...no. As a parent, I can tell you I would have been furious.
This series has brought lots of opportunities for the coaches and Smoed athletes. And it appears most have taken advantage of that. I'm not hating on that, but I certainly do not feel any empathy for their stress level or the pressure they are under. They could have said no. As for the parents of the athletes, they have a responsibility to step in when it's becoming too much for their child.
I do not base my opinion of the Cali program on one team. I do think it is time for the owner to evaluate the value of continued participation in this series and either shut it down or put parameters in place to minimize the negative attention.

Slander is only slander when it's untrue. Posting the emails, calling the situation bullying, expressing disgust at the picture another child sent – that's all true, and hence is not defamation. He maybe went a bit far, but this is a free country and he can defend his family. What Cali did to Dylan more constitutes slander since it didn't tell his true story despite the title of that episode.

I'm just a child, but if someone was calling me out, my parents would be getting twitters and instagrams ready to back me up. It's a parents instinct to protect their child. Too bad the internet made it easier to become a target. I don't think he went out of line by any means.
