What $ is it per athlete for a paid bid to Worlds? What did it cost to get that athlete (airfare/food/hotel) to (insert name of competition)?

See the true monetary value of that "paid bid" if you have to travel to get it?
It is $650 per athlete. And it cost way more than $650 to get that paid but at least we have Saturday free...

That is if u are bid chasing then yes you are paying way more then what you receive.
But what if a team is scheduled to attend 4 bid competitions, if they get a bid on the first attempt should they cancel the remaining ones?

On the flip side if scheduled for 4 bid events and you receive a bid at the last event I'm guessing you already surpassed the 650 mark.

CA (the Texas one) has a fluid competition schedule and I suspect it's for this very reason. I think that's one reason the Plano schedule is hard to get your hands on. When it comes out the column for which teams are attending each comp says something like "some level 5 and 6 teams". Decisions are made as the season progresses. Of course, they don't travel very much so changes along the way are not that big of a deal I guess. It would stink to make early flight arrangements to try to get cheaper fares only to have your CPs team pull out because they won an early bid.

That's the great thing about teams in Tx. So much competition. The options in the north are just not the same if you want to actually compete against other programs sometimes.

This exactly!

Is that the only reason for attending a bid comp? I would think you are attending a comp not only for a bid but to compete as well. Why else would we be putting in all this work - just for a one and done then work hard for Worlds?

Now with all these added invite only - that would be doable for those guns that are lucky enough to be invited.

Even if not bid chasing. Even if the closest bid competition to us and CPs team got the paid...it would cost me more than $650 or close to it(hotels transportation comp fees entry fees)

But aren't you also going there to compete not just for the bid? There is value in competing against competition as well.

I viewed our comp schedule as competing and a bid aS an added bonus. Only once did we go to a bid comp for the sole purpose of obtaining abid - that was at the time when jr teams went to Worlds.

If we were unsucceful in obtaining a paid bid from our regular schedule competition - then adding in a comp for the sole purpose of winning that paid, well I think my money would of been more well spent on paying my way to Worlds.

I think his posts (and my feeling too) make it very clear that a bid is not the only reason for attending a bid comp (see above discussing lack of competition in the North) The point is that attending multiple bid comps can get very expensive...far more than the 650...so if you are in an area where you don't need your families to travel so much for that "level of competition"...why do it?

That's my point. If you are a worlds team you go for a bid and to compete and for a bid and depending on where you are located you may have to travel far to compete against other teams. By the time you are done with your 2-3 of 4 bid events you have far surpassed the amount of a full paid bid unless you are lucky enough to live in an area with s lot of talented teams that you can compete against without crossing the country.

See above...I was already touching on this. Of course teams go to compete...not just for a bid (well...most of the time ;) ) But depending on where you are geographically (and CSP is in a great cheer area) you don't have to necessarily travel to get "competition". Some gyms aren't as fortunate. I can't tell you how many "local" (some even called "nationals") comps we have attended in CPs career and competed against nobody.
