Real question: how do kids at large, well known programs and esp on well known level 5 teams that compete across the country every weekend even stay in school? My school only allows 12 excused absences per semester. I'm already at 6...I lose all my credits once I surpass 12...

Guilty: Scheduling is key -- dentist, Airrosti, Chiro appointments are quick. Go to school for a bit, leave for an appointment and get a dr note then catch the plane = excused absence.

My child online schools but she's in the minority. I think there are 9 total kids in Kernersville who online school. Only 3 are on SE. 1 is on Coed. We online schooled way before she was on this team.

I had 2 other kids who did traditional schooling and we spent a lot of hours driving home after awards for them to go to school. It's doable but it was a delicate balance.

I was one of the parents who spoke with CSP about the mounting cost of the sport. Tuition and competition fees aren't the brunt of it. It's the travel and I as a veteran returning parent, was afraid I wasn't going to be able to maintain this for the next 3 years, to age her out like I did her sisters. Whoever described our area a few pages back was spot on. This is a small town 12 miles big. Completely blue collar. We can't afford this anymore and it breaks my heart. I'm not the only one, but I can't speak for them.

She listened and for that I thank her!!

I am saying all of this knowing I am about to get attacked by Teal Army. But I honestly find the timing suspicious. If this is totally motivated by the parents in her gym complaining about the cost of travel then I can understand. But what I can't understand why announce it right after NCA where your teams didn't place where you thought they should? She is upset that they haven't won at that competition so she is just going to pull her teams. She kind of sounds like a kid who takes their toys away because her friend isn't playing how she wants them to. And if this is motivated by her desire to cater the parents wishes, why does announce it on twitter and not in the gym to the teams and parents? If it's an issue with Stay to Play, then why suddenly is it an issue? She is the one along with other coaches that create the competition schedule. They had to know how expensive it was going to be. She must have known that there would be some families who would struggle and it didn't bother her then. Why is it suddenly an issue? The timing is suspicious. Honestly its situations like this that I am not a fan of CEA, she wrote that post knowing people would talk and she seems to enjoy causing controversy.

if your not getting the results that you want, why go back. i can see both sides as to why CEA would pull out and why people would side eye their decision. just like worlds, where certain teams/programs will only go on full paid bids.
about my only thing with them doing this is how would they stay competitive, i mean other then competing against top gun and stingrays they would really never see any competition, unless they plan on competing in jersey/world cup. but if you look at say the cali program before all these speciality comps they really never saw any of their competition unless at worlds or nca, and they have quite a few wins under their roof. so in the long run it can work.

I can't comment on her timing because I haven't spoken to her about it. I can only comment about the cost conversation I did have. I've been saying for 4/5 years here that if varsity wants to grow the sport of cheerleading they'll do everything the can NOT to price out your average families. Nobody there listened though, because they don't care. And costs are only going up. Y'all can think wha you want but I spoke truthfully from the heart. (Shrug)

For some reason I thought she was aging out this year and she was my age. where did I get that idea??
I'm glad she's listening to parents and making it more affordable for them. It's so important for gym owners to be approachable and receptive or else they'll price people out without even knowing it. I also think it starts at the top - if big, high profile teams make travel comps more rare, people across the board will start to realize you don't have to travel so far so often. There are many smaller gyms that limit their travel - as part of one of them I feel like sometimes people are like "oh you don't go to XyZ?" and write us off. Big gyms not going so far could help smaller gyms who feel they lose credibility when they don't go to 10 two day comps 5+ hrs away survive and help parents afford the sport!
I realize CA has been limiting travel forever, it's just good to see another gym doing so also :)

I can totally understand where you are coming from from the cost point of view. All youth sports are ridiculously expensive. I recently spoke to a friend who just got a second job in order to pay for his son's hockey this year with a $2000 registration fee. I nearly died. My son is 2 and the registration fee for a parent toddler soccer 5 week activity was $100! And to be fair, I haven't met CSP, she could honestly be doing this for all the right reasons, to help the parents from her gym. But the timing of her announcement and the way she made the announcement makes me a bit suspicious.

Point taken. I guess we'll see!

I don't think a lot of people realize how very realistic this is. Especially in the southeast.

I had a great cheer career and I never flew to a competition, EVER. Neither has my sister. She's been to 4 different bid events just this season and has two more to go. It really just eliminates NCA, which we were lead to believe was already off their schedule anyway.

Suspicious in what way though? She's already announced her displeasure with NCA this season and said they probably wouldn't be back. That's not really hiding anything. The financial burden sounds like all the more reason to remove it from the schedule.

If they are unhappy with the results, why go back? I wouldn't return to a restaurant where I did not enjoy the food served to me. It's her gym and it's her decision. Gyms drop competitions all the time. This just happens to be a big one. I guess I'm just a little confused as to why people want to criticize for making a business decision or feel like she owes some kind of explanation (and then when an explanation is given basically claim it's not good enough)
