All-Star Nca: How Could This Happen???

I just wanted to let you all know that while Varsity owns WSF, UCA, and NCA, they are all run by different people.

So this is really off topic but at the same time not,
In 2008 when I still did youth/rec cheer, we went to the league competition & beat our long time rival for the first time in forever by a long shot & was announced 2nd place. We eventually traded the trophy & medals with the other team once the mistake was corrected, but still; the other team still called them selves the champions of that day, and all the other teams still said they won but really it was my team who FINALLY beat a team that no one could really stand. lol.
Sorry, had to share. haha

I never get all that upset about judging or scoring mistakes - people are human, and as a soccer referee I can certainly look back on calls I made (or didn't make) that in hindsight I messed up on.

It really does stink for the kids affected, but I also rarely think it's anything more than people doing their best and making a mistake.

EDIT: I will say that the "jacket" thing, though, is a bigger deal. I know from working a local competition that we always had extra medals, trophies, etc. just in case these situations occurred.

Mistakes have happened like this before at other competitions.....even local NCA ones. But here is the difference; at Cheer America, 3 years ago, we had won National Champs and when they announced Grand Champs they announced the 2nd place team in our division. When we told them the mistake they said "Ok, we are so sorry for the error, we will refund your nationals money and make you some T-shirts that say grand champs". On top of that, they still gave us Grand Champion sweatshirts and a big banner. This year at Cheer America regional, one of our teams nailed their routine and won the division. They called us the next day and said, "We made a mistake, you guys should have been Grand Champs for your Level". They sent us a banner and T-shirts. And then there is NCA.......mistakes like this has happened about 3 or 4 times to many of my teams in the past 5 years or so, and the problem is, NCA talks down to you, they hardly ever apologize, and they never try to make the customer happy. They are just pompous. If you show any kind of attitude that you are upset, even if it is their fault, they snap at you and get angry with you. I can't stand going to NCA competitions. I love watching the teams that go.....it's awesome....the atmosphere is awesome. But anytime anyone has a question of placement, legality, judging....anything, they talk to you like you are an idiot. And I'm not the only one that thinks that way. NCA All Star Nationals is a prestigous event, which is why many people go to it. But, look at a competition like CGA and Spirit Celebration.....they are always huge!!!!!! It's because the owner, Billy Smith, will make sure that the customer is happy, no matter what. It doesn't matter who you are, where you are from, he will try to fix whatever problem you have. Same thing with Cheer America....Ladd will always be nice to you, even if he proves you are wrong. They just respect you and your business. NCA could care less!

No. Cheersport is independent. They do participate in the Varsity Family plan i believe though. Not sure how that works.
Ok thanks! What do you mean they participate in the varsity family plan? Just wondering, didn't know anyone could do that?

King of the Jungle? Yeah, that was pretty sad... though the announcer was very apologetic as you noted. I think his explaination was that the list was 2 pages for that division and he only saw the one name on the page he was looking at and mistakenly thought they were the 1st place? Felt bad for those kids.
yep, that was the one. Those poor things. He was very apologetic and I can see how that might happen, I just think you should probably check and double check before you start announcing stuff, especially if you're on multiple pages.

Cheersport registration counts towards the total you pay in your varsity registration for the check the gym gets back at the end of the year.

I don't know how the actual mechanics work.

In Hall A they had to start the Large JR 4 awards 3 times then IMO they still got it wrong.

Oh, they had to start over because they kept making mistakes. Finally, excused themselves and went back stage to get it together, supposedly.

It was frustrating when they kept starting and stopping the Jr4 Large awards but, I think the placements were accurate.....

My CP's team was the one who got announced as 3rd place for Lg Jr Coed 4, as they were waiting backstage. So they awkardly start to come out and accept their last place award, only to be told to go back and they were going to start over. They go backstage and wait through all the other Level 4 awards, already crushed that they'd come in last place. They then get to come out and be announced as last place...again. Talk about pouring salt in the wound!

wow...... I couldnt quite figure out what was going on during that time.... that really sucks...

The announcer picked up the wrong paper to call awards from. The JC4s were still backstage and he started calling those out, instead of the J4s that were setup on stage ready to hear the results.
