I don't think you're thinking of Chousivitina, since she's not American, but this fit her perfectly. She was 30 at the 2008 Olympics and competed I believe..

She isn't at the Visa's this year, which is why I didn't include her. So i'm not sure what is going on with her. I know she was on the National Team this past year. And i love her personally. I just don't think she would be included in the Olympic Team. While she is a great girl and can perform well on all around, I don't think she would be in the Top 3 on any specific event over who I listed. She got first on floor at the 2010 Visa's but that didn't include any of the usual contendors (Shawn, Alicia, Weiber)

Bross. I completely agree. She looks miserable all the time, and her hair is not cute.
I'm wondering if Mattie has retired from elite?
I know at the 2010 Visa's they talked about her being accepted to UCLA, but she was wanting to go to 2012 first, maybe she decided not to wait?

Possibly. She has been MIA since worlds.

Mohini Bhardwaj in 2004- she was 26.. I was off by a few years but I knew I wasn't crazy! In my head it was more dramatic, but not so much in real life.

Woah, Alicia Sacramone is 23... she'll be 24 competing at the Olympics (turning 25 by the end of that year). That's OLD for a Olympian! Of course this is all if she does get on the Olympic team. I'm surprised that she is out still competing and Nastia is already retired!

 Do you mean for a female gymnastics or the Olympics in general.... I guarantee you that at 2012 Olympics she will be around the avg age for a competitor in general.

As I've already mention there were two competitors in their mid twenties in Athens. Dominique Dawes was like 24 in Sydney.

I see what they mean when they say youth is wasted on the "young"....

Svetlana khorkina was 25 at her last Olympics. And she won a silver in all around

Wow never realized that. Just always heard the commentators mentioning how most people only compete between the ages of 16-22 so I thought it would be "rare" for anyone older than that to compete.

male gymnasts usually don't peak until early-mid 20's, but female gymnasts are still hovering around 16-20, with the exception of a few

Yeah I meant to mention that the average age for males is somewhere in the mid 20s...with some in their late 20's...but nobody considers that "old"....

Thats part of the reason they raised to age to 16, since so many teams were competing those itty bitty girls (and lying about their ages to begin with anyway..not that I want to beat that horse again). In 2008 the US gymnasts looked like amazons compared to China...This isnt the best picture, but I'm sure you remember the size difference..

I think its great that female gymnasts are competing into their 20's and that some of them are going to college first then pursuing world championship goals..

funny how old 16 year old Sam Peszek (I believe she was 16 at the time?) looks SO much older than the "16" year old athletes from China.. even looks older then Cheng Fei

Oksana Chusovitina most recently competed in 2010, at the age of 35. She's a mom to a 12 year old and has competed in the following Olympic Games: 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and plans on being in London next summer. She won her first individual Olympic medal in 2008, at the age of 33 (silver on vault). SHE IS A BEAST!!!!!!!!!
