AHHH! Just saw Rebecca's fall... that was TERRIFYING! Just hearing her crying was the most terrible thing ever. Prayers to her for a speedy recovery.

I almost cried when i heard Rebecca had been hurt. Ari actually met Rebecca when she was 6 or 7? They went to the same gymnastics camp for a week or 2 and became good friends! She's such a sweet girl, prayers going out to her and her family.

When will the Worlds team be announced? (just watching the re-run now)

The Worlds team won't be selected for a little while. All the girls still have to go to I believe two selection camps in Texas before Marta and Co. make their final decision!

Any predictions for the Worlds team?
I'm HOPING to see Alicia on the team, her floor routine day 2 blew me away, and her beam and vault are amazing (though vault usually more consistent than she was last night)

I feel bad for Rebecca, just so unfortunate. Last year's VISA Maggie Larson was there & I thought she performed pretty well, but there wasn't anything about her this year? I know she's a below the radar gymnast but still
Mattie's at UCLA this year, putting gymnastics in the backseat for now. I'm so bummed about it; loved watching her compete.

Jordyn Wieber
Aly Raisman
Shawn Johnson
Alicia Sacramone
Chellsie Memmel
McKayla Maroney

Ok...maybe thats just who I'm hoping for haha

why are they only taking 5 to the olympics next year? the commentator said something about 6 spots for worlds and then shaving it to 5 for the olympics. or maybe i just caught the end and didn't understand what he meant?

As much as I like that lineup it won't happen, that team is WAY too weak on bars.. They need at least one bars specialist on the team..

The thing is... Aly and Alicia are one spot because they really will only use used on the same events but in my opinion Alicia will make it before her because she can put up a bigger score on beam and international judges like her look more than Aly

Vault would be ASac, Maroney, and Wieber. Bars - Memmel (if she's healthy enough), Wieber, and _______.? they need one BIG score there which will be the last spot on the team. Beam - Wieber, Memmel, and ASac. Floor - Wieber, ASac, Maroney.

Macko might sneak onto the team to do just bars and be a backup on beam although she needs a harder dismount..

Shawn might sneak on but I think they'll keep her laying low for a little longer..

What Aly would compete on (and be most useful) is already filled by ASac and Maroney..

If Gabrielle Douglas was consistent this weekend she would be on the team she's just young.

So my pick -

Wieber
ASac
Maroney
Memmel
Macko and/or Douglas
If they only choose one Aly will sneak onto the team

I lied..

Wieber
ASac
Maroney
Memmel
Macko or Douglas
Aly or Shawn

Shawn would be a good backup on bars and beam (always a plus) and she does the same vault as Aly anyways

Weiber, ASac, Maroney, Memmel, Shawn, and either Aly or someone else..I think they'll bring in Anna Li for camp (she normally has a really strong bars routine and they'll need that).

I think they're going to want the consistency and skills of some of the veterans plus some of the particular strengths of the younger girls (Maroney's vault, etc). I have no doubt that Asac, Memmel and Shawn are working higher skills, it was constantly mentioned that they were holding off to avoid injury (which is hardly surprising). Not sure who I want in that 6th spot..do they get alternates?

I've been away this weekend so I'm just catching up on everything now, but I just have to say a couple things...
1) I think it'd be wicked cool if MA could have 2 amazing gymnasts (Alicia & Aly) representing at the Olympics!!
2) Jordyn's floor music/routine is my favorite.
3) Alicia's leo is beautiful! I hope UA starts making more!!
4) Lastly, I hope Nastia comes back, if only so we can get a little style variation. I think the 'team' (or those predicted to be on the team, anyways) are very powerful gymnasts, whereas Nastia's more of an elegant gymnast. I enjoy watching both styles, so for selfish reasons, I hope she comes back! =)

And now I can't wait for next August...

FIG changed the format. The 2012 Olympics will be a 5-4-3 for Team Prelims and a 5-3-3 for Team Finals.
5-4-3 format means that there are 5 gymnasts per team, 4 compete each event and the top 3 scores for each event count towards the team score.
5-3-3 format means that there are 5 gymnasts per team, 3 compete each event and all 3 of those scores count.
This means that in both prelims and finals you can choose your best athletes for each event. In prelims you have the luxury of a throw-away (so if someone falls or has a mistake, you're still safe). In finals though, every score counts, so no mistakes!

The format for Worlds is 6-5-4 (6 on a team, 5 up, 4 count) for team prelims and 6-3-3 for team finals.

The US Worlds team will be announced on Sept 21 at The Ranch.
