In our district, they have adopted abstinence only education so it's 'no sex period,' and absolutely NO talk about birth control. They cover STDs but it's more of a brush over.
Did they get Bristol Palin to come in to promote abstinence. [emoji23]

**No way that's cool aid, must be crack aid for that level of addiction**

If they were planning on using Bristol, they may as well have used the Duggars. They're real big on public speaking ya know.

Yes, but at least the Duggars don't have 2 kids out of wedlock

I think the Duggars would do better for a different type of PSA. ;p

Sadly we didn't get to hear the stories of anyone as fun as Bristol might have been, I'm not quite young enough to call her my peer.

"Don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die!"
Ah, good old mean girls! No but seriously, as long as students are educated about safety then it's better than them not knowing anything at all. Not talking about it is less dangerous because they have no idea about safety.

This drives me insane when there is so much research that clearly states that this strategy doesn't work [emoji854] and that someone's religious affiliation [meaning just affiliation, (not religiousity) (swear I didn't just make that word up)] actually has very little effect on whether they wait until marriage to have sex.

Ours was basically one big scare tactic. They started with all the gross pictures of stds, not telling us to use protection to avoid it but telling us that if we have sex out of marriage well end up looking like this. Then they went for the girls with the "a piece of yourself" is now with that person and then they share it and share it with more people until your all used up. I'm not even kidding they had pictures with a flow chart showing how your being used up. Then we did the cup game were two people in the class were infected and you had to share the liquid in your cup with 5 other people and at the end all the cups were infected. It was the most useless nonsense I've ever had to sit through.

Parents need to turn off the data on their kid's phones when they're unsupervised and in elementary school if they have to have a phone. In the past year, I have heard too many parents saying adult videos have become the entertainment on the elementary school bus. IMO, depending on the exposure, parents should face charges since they can control web access. Ultimately, parents are going to have to realize with technology, they are going to have to step up the education process and not rely on the schools to the job for them.

That's ridiculous teenagers are really bad at following directions and really good at making bad decisions. You can't expect an entire district of teenagers to remain abstinent just because you say so.

You are so right, I forgot about the 'piece of yourself' commentary! The cup thing though...that is just wow!

Sigh.

Lol that is not sex education. That's shaming kids (girls spefically) and teaching them that their identity and self worth is tied to their virginity. You've now left kids with the thought they are/will be worthless and still with no real knowledge about safe sex.

A+ schooling, really. /sarcasm

It was really terrible. And it wasn't ever the guys who were losing a part of them self it was always the girls who are giving a piece of themselves up to the guys. Flow chart and all. I'm going to look up the group, maybe they have the flow chart on their site.

This group also sold shirts that said "I keep my pants on" so I mean really what could you expect....

Yeah, thats pretty typical in a lot of areas - to see girls being given messages like that. Just another reason why gender equality is uber important.
