Spill, if you care to!

I was asked to be a room mom and at our meeting the new principal came in and said this would be the year we "take back what's reasonable" and she placed a $2 limit per child, per party. I guess there were some mom's that would rent and have ice cream trucks, bounce houses, petting zoo's, pony rides, moto-cross riders, etc. for their class party. One family was in the record label business and would bring entertainers in for "meet and greets". This principal was, also, the one to put a stop to limo's, classroom floral deliveries, singing telegrams and dates for the 8th grade dance that was held in the school gym, and limo's for the first and last day of school. She said and I quote, "If you so desperately need your child to be noticed by a large crowd, you'll have to rent the limo for church service and have the flowers delivered to your pew but, it's not going to happen at school.":D

ETA: "Crowd" not "crowed"

Me being english here but what is a room mom?
Most parents are not too crazy but due to demographic you can have some very committed parents driving from one side of the country to the other for well known or world teams.

Our county had to put bans like this in place because of how absurd it was getting. In 2008 when my daughter was in special needs preschool I saw a limo taking a bunch of 5 year olds to school for kindergarten graduation. The ban was put in place the next school year.

It's a parent for a child's classroom that organizes parties and special events.

Totally stealing this.
All I saw at first from 'cheergle' was cheer eagle, then I tried to imagine eagles cheering, LOL.

Yeah I was wondering too, thanks @dawgshow! For class parties and things at my Australian school, it's organised by the teachers, year level coordinators, leadership team, all of the class or multiple of these people/groups of people. I can't really see the need for parents to be involved? The teachers take us, and we attend, I don't see how parents should really mind too much because the teachers will make sure it's something safe and reasonable, and the parents find out anyway on the permission slip. After all, the parents aren't going. TL;DR- I don't really see how room mums are nessaccery?

We've had room/class moms in both preschool and school. Sometimes they just think they're really important but don't really do anything. And sometimes (now) they are super nice and cook a full thanksgiving meal and bring to school for the class party, or organize fun craft stuff for the kids winter party. One of them also watched my little one at an after school class party when I couldn't attend because I had to do hair and makeup for CP's cheer showcase. So yeah, I'm liking room moms at the moment. :)

Curious, why do you think a room mom is necessary?

*The day Susie was not full of sunshine.*
Haha I don't. Lol I didn't know what it was until today. She said she didn't know how to spell necessary.

I think the biggest difference is that we don't have year level coordinators and our teachers and leadership teams are so busy with redundant or CYA paper work that it's a blessing to have someone take one little thing off of teachers' plates.
