I haven't commented in this at all for either nights so im just going to give a few thoughts:
Love Gabby forever. She's fierce and amazing and i'm so proud of her. I love how no one thought she would be ready and she just worked her butt off to make her dream come true.

Nastia... I will miss her so much. I wanted to cry so bad when I saw the look on her face. It's going to be hard to watch the olympics with neither her or shawn being there. I've looked up to them for so long and it's devastating.

Im completely shocked about ASac not making an alternate. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention tonight but I thought she did pretty well! Could someone maybe explain why they think she didn't make it cause i'm a little confused.

I've recently developed a liking toward Kyla and i'm glad she did it.

Also on another note, I live about 15 minutes away from Anna Li and i'm really excited and proud that she made it as an alternate!! :D <3

waitt.....aly's going to london... i guess its cause she's that good!

K first of all, you've graduated kindergarten, you can lose the elementary school bullshit bitchiness, thanks.
Second of all, Aly's good, difficulty wise, but she's the complete opposite of what the sport is supposed to be about. Never once did I say she wasn't good, I said she wasn't aesthetically pleasing, and I hate that such horrible gymnastics technique is being encouraged.

I think if this team does what they're capable of, they're set for London, but it's a damn shame that a one-trick pony made the team. Maroney's extremely talented, don't get me wrong, but she's not reliable enough on any other event to put her in team finals. The only place I can see her MAYBE have a shot at putting up a good score is floor, and even then it'd be a bit nerve wracking putting her there. I think she was put on the team simply to add another medal (obviously she's going to place in vault EF) to the US. Kyla made the team because Nastia wasn't on. I believe that 100%. She's needed on bars, possibly beam, and I think if Nastia proved herself tonight, Kyla wouldn't be on the team. I'll ignore the other 3, Aly and Jordyn will obviously hit, and Gabby's only real scary event is beam, and I'm doubting she'll be used for it.
Only other thing I'll say, even my non-gymnastics following friends cried at Nastia's standing ovation. I would believe it if I was told her and A Sac were offered alternate spots and declined. I don't think an alternate spot on the Olympic team was the end of the career either of them wanted. Wasn't too pleased with the performances tonight, seemed like everyone was slightly off, but I'm still thankful I can cheer for America, because I don't get my hopes up for Canada too much, especially without Ellie Black and Peng Peng.

other than bars she looks pretty good to me with technique?

Her legs are never straight and her toes are never pointed. Her chest is always up in vault, her knees are always bent, and she rarely fully rotates. Her floor work is amazing difficulty wise, but her feet are, once again, always flexed, her knees are apart in tucks, her leaps barely reach 180, especially towards the end of the routine. Her beam, once again, bent legs, toes not pointed, leaps barely reaching 180, cowboy'd tuck in the dismount (which I don't blame her for, she's competing the hardest dismount). Comparing her to someone like Nastia or Alicia or Shawn, who are true champions, she has disgusting technique.

i feel like shes one of the ones with the better leaps than others on the team...

and just to the people hating on aly raisman you have to give credit where its due, she was the best in America at visas and trials on floor and beam...the only one to win more the one event title

Depends on the leap. She's not TERRIBLE in leaps, but she often drops her back leg, especially in switch splits and switch splits half, she almost tends to do something similar to a hurdle in cheerleading. Her front leg goes past 180 and her back goes far below it. That back leg is also rarely perfectly straight, and the toe is rarely pointed. A lot of her issues come from her inability to straighten her leg and not sickle her feet.

From her switch ring at :45 on, her leaps are not good. They're often shown from angles that you can't really tell how bad they are, but that video's the best representation I can find. Her switch ring, her knee is below 180, her head is barely back, her front toe is not pointed. On her switch half, her front leg is not straight and her back leg is far below 180. Also with her switch split at about 1:20. Back leg is barely reaching 180. Even the split out of the double pike at the end is not 180.

I personally don't hate on her ability. Her difficulty in her tumbling passes and her consistency is scary good, but like I've said my main issue is she's ruining the reputation of the sport for the gorgeous lines, and for the technique mattering more than difficulty. She's not like Shawn, Alicia, Sam, etc. that were also power gymnasts, they managed to have amazing technique in the little things. They were perfect combinations of the elements of the sport. Alicia is a great representation of the difficulty it takes to win, but not the technique.

yeah i totally understand what you're saying but you cant really blame her for that its all just the new rules. kind of like "dont hate the player hate the game" type thing haha

I think Maroney made it because it would have been very hard for them to justify keeping the World Champion in vault off the olympic team especially since her scores on vault are significantly higher than her closest competitors. That and the fact that she came back so strongly from the concussion and the nasal fracture and still has another 3 weeks to be fully healed.
